Lucy Coe arrived in Port Charles in 1986 as a librarian involved with Kevin O'Connor. She later had an affair with Bobbie Spencer's then-husband Jake Meyer, then married Tony Jones. After Tony, she married Alan Quartermaine wearing a red dress. While married to Alan, she had an affair with Scott Baldwin, but ended up leaving town with Greg Bennett.
When she returned to town, Scott had fallen in love with Dominique Taub who was dying from brain cancer. Lucy agreed to be the surrogate mother for their child and gave birth to Serena. She then met psychiatrist Kevin Collins and they found love. She was briefly married to Rex Stanton in order to keep an eye on Serena but stood by Kevin during his mental breakdown and afterwards the couple planned to marry until she indirectly caused Serena’s blindness.
In time, Lucy and Kevin found their way back to one another, even battling vampires together. Lucy left Port Charles for several years but returned when Felix DuBois and Sabrina Santiago asked her to underwrite the Nurses’ Ball. Her funds were frozen but Lucy learned her ELQ voting share was valuable in a battle for power between Tracy and A.J. Quartermaine. Right after Lucy was named Co-CEO of ELQ she stabbed John McBain, thinking he was a vampire. Lucy maintained that John was Caleb even after crimes were committed while John was in jail. Later, John and Lucy were able to saved Sam from Caleb and she put an end to her slaying days.

At the Metro Court, Bobbie asks Carly to join her and Scott. Bobbie feels guilty about lying to him and wants to know where things stand between Carly and Sonny. Carly admits there was one more slip and Bobbie gives her the heavy sigh. She wants Carly to face reality – what chance can she have to be happy with Franco? Carly says she has to stay with Franco and Sonny knows they can’t be together again. Meanwhile, Duke and Anna arrive for a private lunch date – until Lucy rushes in to join them. Duke sheepishly admits he invited her, and Lucy’s mood turns sour as soon as she sees Bobbie. Duke tries to calm her down but when Scott enters it’s hopeless. Meanwhile, Scott and Carly get into a fight about Sonny and Franco and Bobbie stops them before it gets too out of hand. Lucy joins all of them and the insults begin to fly between her and Bobbie. Right after Lucy brings up Carly’s affair with Tony, Duke drags her away. Sitting alone, Jordan ignores Sabrina’s calls. Anna joins her and learns Morgan knows where Ava is. Anna decides to go back to her table but no one is there. Duke drags Lucy back, and she tells them she has decided to leave town. Duke decides to drive Lucy home and leaves a frustrated Anna at the table. Later, Franco joins Carly, Bobbie and Scott for lunch.
Outside her hotel room, Anna takes a call from Robert and thanks him for sending his team. If anyone else was in the clinic she can’t imagine they survived. Furthermore, she’s sure they did the right thing about Faison, but feels like she’s lying to Duke every day, especially since he isn’t keeping anything from her anymore. She opens her door and finds Duke in a seemingly compromising position with Lucy on the couch. Lucy hopes Anna doesn't think anything inappropriate was going on and tells them it’s all Bobbie’s fault. Anna can’t believe they are still fighting over Scott and tells Lucy to make Scott choose right now. Determined, Lucy stomps off – after a long wiggly hug with Duke. Alone, Duke and Anna head for the bedroom. After sex, they sip martinis and he considers taking a bartending gig at the Floating Rib. Talk turns to Faison, and Duke’s glad he’s safely behind bars. Meanwhile, Bobbie visits Scott’s room to tell him about Franco’s party downstairs. He wants to know why she lied to Franco about their dinner together and thinks something fishy is going on. Lucy knocks and stomps in, demanding Scott pick one of them. She and Bobbie gang up and tell him to choose now or they are both walking away. Later, Lucy runs back into Anna’s room and throws herself onto Duke – Scott chose Bobbie! Back in Scott’s room, Bobbie and Scott kiss. Scott chose her because they’ve always had trust and honesty between them. Downstairs, Franco overhears Sonny tell Carly they belong together. After Sonny leaves Franco startles Carly and hopes he isn’t ruining any surprises. She lies about who she was talking to. Franco tells her Nina isn’t coming because she knows Carly is jealous of their friendship. Carly seems relieved and tells Franco she knows nothing is going on. “Like you and Sonny?” he questions. Kiki and Michael arrive and Franco tells Michael to run off with Carly to get some champagne. Alone, he asks Kiki if Carly slept with Sonny. She acts confused and he tells her Rosalie heard her talking about it and told Nina. He begs Kiki to be honest with him and she confirms Sonny and Carly did the deed. She only wanted to protect him and even kept it from Michael. Franco laughs – there’s something he’s been meaning to tell Michael. At the bar, Carly thanks Michael for coming. They hug and Bobbie and Scott join them all. Carly hands out wine and says a few words about how amazing and fascinating Franco is. She let him into her heart and can’t imagine life without him. She hopes on his special day he can see how much he means to her and the people in this room. Franco has a few words to say himself. Back upstairs, Robin pounds on Anna’s door.
