Quote tinasfatheronlostins: Quote alikat: Quote Heide_Ho: Quote oltlforever31: I have to agree with Robin Strasser. To me, The Chew represents the demise of soaps, and if I were a soap actress or actor, I don't think I would want to be a part of that. I am not angry with Laura Wright, but I can understand why others would be. Don't be fooled, ABC is looking for the first opportunity they have to cancel GH, so if we start supporting these replacement shows now, It will be gone sooner, than later. That's pretty much my stance as well. Laura Wright can do what she will but her choice to appear in a way lends some gravitas to the fluff that are the replacement shows. With AMC and Oltl both gone LW is pretty much the biggest ABC daytime female star at present. Oh I would say that the biggest ABC Daytime star would be either Kelly Ripa or maybe Whoppi or Barbara Walters...I tend to say Kelly. Interestingly enough, Kelly Ripa and Laura Wright were roommates before they married their hubby's. If I'm not mistaken, she's been on Live with Regis and Kelly. The issue isn't whether she's being loyal to the daytime serial, the issue is that regardless of whether the GH cast supports the new shows or not, OLTL and AMC aren't coming back. At least not on ABC. Therefore, promoting the show on other shows could lend to the ratings that GH needs to stay on the air. Once Katie's show starts, The Chew will be the lead in to GH (I assume) so any chance to keep THAT audience and get them watching GH is a plus plus for the daytime serial genre. ABC was the last network to downsize their serial lineup. CBS did it a few years ago with dropping Guiding Light and then ATWT. Days did it a decade ago when they dropped Passions, Another World, etc... Anyone who thinks that a company is not allowed to make money doesn't understand the free market in which these networks operate. Just like on Prime Time where we are losing more drama's and sitcoms to Reality shows, we are losing the serial to talk shows in the daytime. Obviously if there was no market for talk shows and reality shows then we'd continue seeing serials and drama's and sitcoms. But WE as the consumers are the ones watching and lending our ratings to cheaper productions. Therefore, the companies are able to slim their staff and offer their stockholders larger dividends. If you are a stockholder, you WANT bigger dividends. And if you look into your IRA's and 401K's etc...look deep, you may find YOU are the benefactor in this scenario. Assumption on my part here but I think the poster was probably referring to daytime serial female stars. As far as Oltl coming back, you really don't know this to be fact. CBS, unlike ABC, did not downsize their programming. ATWT and GL were P&G soaps and were not owned by CBS. Neither are Y&R and B&B. Days isn't owned by NBC either. However these NETWORKS kept certain shows but downsized their soap line up and put talk shows in their place, thus creating a bigger profit margin. ABC was the hold out. And you're right, I really don't know if OLTL will never come back. However when you have many of the stars involved in other projects or with contracts with other shows and you have the EP and the HW both on contract with a different show...I don't see any recognizable form coming back. And in what setting? On ABC again? I'd bet my paycheck THAT won't happen. Like I said, I certainly understand the loss people feel but its not wrong of Laura Wright to be a spokesperson for her company. |

Quote JaneDoe: I would assume that LW was asked by ABC/Disney (the very people who employ her) to appear on The Chew.... a show owned by ABC/Disney. I would also assume it's not a smart move to turn them down..... them being ABC/Disney (the very people who employ her). I would agree with you. Laura works for the network. If they ask her to make an appeance on the Chew she probably has no choice. I did not watch her because I will never watch that show. |

Did she post good ratings? If so she should do all the new shows. |

Quote Nightmoves: If this is true, Robin Strasser is being petty and showing zero class IMO. You said it best! At some point I'm sure OLTL may have bumped out another show, should RS not have been on OLTL then because of it and would she be thinking the same way? I understand her hurt over losing her job but it wasn't LW or The Chew that ended OLTL, it was TPTB at ABC, whom LW is employed by. |

Quote alikat: I know there are a lot of fans of OLTL who are upset that the show is gone. I know Robin Strasser is outspoken and most certainly has a right to her opinion. However, I don't see a problem with someone who works for a company promoting that company and basically showing a loyalty to the people who employ her. I watched, and although I don't think The Chew will become a regular show I watch, I enjoyed the segment with Laura Wright and enjoyed getting to see inside her personal life. As an HR Manager, the only thing I can think is that Robin Strasser must feel comfortable completely burning the bridge with ABC/Disney. Again, I feel she has every right to dislike The Chew and to voice her opinion. I'm not so sure her anger isn't misplaced on Laura who is simply still employed by ABC and is a "company man". The classiest thing is that Laura Wright hasn't commented on Robin Strassers tweet. I hope she continues in that vein. Shows maturity and a true understanding of someone else's pain and not wanting to add to it. Does this mean that Kelly Ripa should give up her show because they cancelled AMC, the show she spent over a decade on? Both run by ABC? Why not be ticked at those from OLTL going to GH, the show that survived when OLTL didn't? Perhaps Ms. Strasser (who I LOVE as an actress and loved Dorian Lord) is feeling a little peeved that she wasn't asked to go to GH as some of her former OLTL cast were? She was pretty vocal LONG before OLTL went off the air (she chose to get out of her contract and leave early didn't she?) and while I have no problem with her opinion, being mad at LW, a person who was never on OLTL and one that is still on a show that she has to promote (though doesn't she also have a side business that she would want to promote?) is wrong. Let's put some (I said SOME) blame on Fronsie, the one so many praise, for a great amount of the demise of OLTL and AMC and not on the actors of GH. |

And I do believe that LW was coerced by the ever-evil ABC/Disney...did you know that if your employer required you to keep a jar of rancid pickles in your cupboard, that if you didn't, that is a means of firing you? |
