The Young Artist Awards were established in 1978 and are Hollywood's longest running awards show that recognizes and honors young talent. The awards are presented by The Young Artist Awards Academy (YAAA), which was founded by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's historian, Maureen Dragone. The Academy provides young artists with mentorship, experience, and accolades that are otherwise unavailable to young performers. They are given year-round support, and the young actors are primed for greater achievements in their craft. Some notable winners in the past who have gone on to become huge successes in the industry include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Bell, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Tori Spelling, Winona Ryder, Christina Applegate, Scott Baio, Jaleel White, Alyssa Milano, Justine and Jason Bateman, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Cory Feldman, Sean Astin, and Mario Lopez.
