Updated March 12: It looks as though Genie Francis could be closer to returning to General Hospital. included a tweet from the actress below stating, "Had a lovely lunch with @valentinifrank this week. @GeneralHospital #GH." She also posted a photo of her and executive producer Frank Valentini and shared, "It's been painful for me to see @valentinifrank receive so much of the blame for the decision to take me off contract. No one fought harder to re-establish Laura on @GeneralHospital. He has always been my champion & I don't believe he took any pleasure in seeing Laura diminished."

We learned on February 28 that ABC executive Nathan Varni is hoping to bring Genie Francis back to General Hospital in a bigger capacity. In a recent podcast interview with Daytime After Dark, Varni confirmed that Francis was currently on recurring status but that the writers want to create a big storyline for her character, Laura. In fact, they are brainstorming on just that and hope that Francis will be interested in the idea. Stay tuned!

On January 22, we reported that rumors have been circulating that Genie Francis has been dropped to recurring status at General Hospital. On Friday's episode, as recapped on, Laura dropped out of the mayor's race and had to go to France to tend to Spencer, who had broken both his legs in a skiing accident. Daytime Confidential cited multiple sources who have confirmed the rumors that Francis was taken off contract at the show are true and EW says the actress' agent, Arthur Toretzky, reported that "Francis will only make her way back to Port Charles if the story and timing were ideal."

Genie Francis returned to General Hospital in 2015 as part of Anthony Geary's exit storyline as Luke Spencer.
