Christmas Eve Vigil for Sydney Thursday, December 24 2009

Stefano calls EJ names, Mel can't get the ring off her finger, and the Horton Christmas begins.

EJ arrives at the mansion and Stefano asks about the vigil for Sydney. He says he’d prefer Stefano wouldn’t attend. EJ leaves and Kate joins Stefano. Stefano tells Kate that children never understand how much they need their parents and Kate adds, "Or how much we need them."

Philip is waiting for Melanie’s decision. She says it’s a big one. Philip is disappointed that it’s taking so long for an answer when she slips the ring on her finger and makes faces when she can’t get it off. He says it’s fate and they are meant to be together forever. She says that's a long time and they kiss as he carries her back to bed. He kisses her and wishes her a Merry Christmas.

Rafe is at the pier talking on his cell when Carly runs into him. They are both surprised when they recognize each other. He asks what she’s doing in Salem, and she says she used to live there and now she’s back for good. They talk about the boat incident when she saved his life. She says she knows Sami so he invites her to attend the candlelight vigil.

At Bo’s, Julie and Doug arrive for the Christmas Party. Julie is so happy to be back together again and is looking forward to hanging all the traditional Horton ornaments on the tree. When she talks about wanting Hope and Bo back together, he reminds her that it's his and Hope's problem to work out. He tells them it will be difficult to get a Christmas miracle this year. Doug takes Julie aside and tells her to let it go. Julie pleads with Bo to give the marriage a chance. He tells her that just because he and Hope are hosting the party, their problems haven’t vanished. Hope arrives and Julie hugs her. They ask Julie to respect their privacy. Julie gets animated telling them to get it together when Doug intervenes and tells Julie to back off. Julie apologizes as the rest of the Hortons arrive. Everyone begins to enjoy themselves as Hope looks at the names on the ornaments hanging on the tree. Hope daydreams and remembers Zack as she hangs his ornament. She looks very sad. Later she tells Julie that she’s going to the vigil. Outside the house, Hope finds Bo staring off into space. He says it got a little intense inside. They both point out how much the family loves them both. Bo says it’s hard to see the family hurt and Hope wishes there was a way to fix things. She says if this was a movie he would take her in his arms, the music would play, and things would be fine. He says it’s not that simple. He leaves her to go back inside and she weeps.

Brady hangs up his phone when Arianna arrives at his place. He kisses her. He excuses himself to answer the ringing phone. He tells the lawyer that he must see Nicole tomorrow. Arianna is miffed that he hadn’t told her about helping Nicole. Ari walks away and Brady tries to explain. She abruptly decides to leave. Brady looks at a gift sitting on the table and sighs. He opens it and it’s cufflinks with a note. He reads it and finds that they belonged to her grandfather who she says was very special to her, as he also is.

At home Anna talks to Tony’s photo and tells him that she’s not alone anymore. Stefano calls Anna on the phone to wish her a Merry Christmas and invites her to join them for Christmas. He says it would make him feel closer to Tony. She tells him to drop dead and hangs up. Anna tells Tony's photo that even Stefano is trying to do the right thing. She tells Sydney they are going for a little drive to do what has to be done. She grabs a blanket and they leave.

Outside the stores, Hope and Sami run into each other. Hope asks if she can give her some advice. They go to The Pub and Hope tells Sami that because of what happened to her, she knows that Sydney may never be the same and for Sami to prepare for that. She tells Sami to hang in there and that she will see her at the vigil. Sami’s phone rings and it's Rafe. She tells him she has something to do first and she’ll see him later.

In jail Nicole remembers the voice and tries to recognize it. Just then Sami arrives and asks her if she's told anyone about the voice. Nicole says no. She pleads with Nicole to remember everything she can so they can find Sydney. When Sami leaves, Nicole is on her knees in her cell praying to God. She asks that he bring EJ and Sami’s baby home.

During the Horton party, Maggie says hi to Nathan and Stephanie and when she leaves the room, he kisses her.

At The Pub, Rafe talks to Arianna and asks her what’s wrong. She says she doesn’t think that Brady can put his relationship with Nicole behind him. Rafe reminds her to be generous in spirit, that it’s Christmas. He asks if she got Brady a Christmas present and she tells him about the cufflinks.

The vigil begins. EJ asks anyone who has details on Sydney’s disappearance to please come forward. He says they love her and asks whoever has Sami's little girl not to let her lose her again. EJ asks them all to join their hands in silent prayer. Sami cries and looks to the sky. Carly looks at Bo and Hope notices. Brady sees Arianna and goes over to her. They embrace. Sami sees Rafe and tells him she visited Nicole. She wonders what life would have been like if the babies hadn't been switched. Rafe tells her that he loves Sydney like his own. EJ joins them and Sami tells him that Nicole recognizes the voice but can’t remember whose it is. Rafe tells her that they are going to get Sydney back whether Nicole remembers the voice or not.

Nathan tells Stephanie that he has reserved a table for two at Chez Rouge for New Year's Eve.

Stefano tells EJ that everything was done for his sake and calls him a heartless ingrate.

Sami excitedly asks Rafe if they’ve found Sydney.
