Melanie attempts an escape, Chad learns Melanie's not with Carly, and Sami goes off on EJ.
At the pub, Lucas is exasperated with Will, who explains that he and EJ have an understanding and EJ won't drag him down with him. Lucas promises that it's a matter of time before EJ stabs Will in the back. Since Will is so confident, is he hiding something? Will asks Lucas to trust him. He knows EJ better than anyone and thinks EJ sees him as someone he needs to respect. EJ isn't the same person since his sister and father's death. Will says he too changed when Grace died. Lucas implores Will to listen. EJ can't be trusted. Will has to leave for work.
Gabi finds Chad at the square looking at Melanie's Facebook page. She hasn't made any posts in weeks. Something isn't right. This isn't like her. Gabi panics as he leaves a message with Carly to call him. Gabi privately calls Andrew to complain and ask when he's letting Melanie go.
John and Marlena snuggle on the sofa at home, reading books. Life is sweet without the threat of Stefano DiMera ruining things. John rubs Marlena's feet and kisses her. They think about Abe's devastation. Marlena's grateful for John. They profess their love for each other and kiss some more. Lucas arrives to tell them Will's in trouble. Lucas shares their earlier conversation and Marlena says Will's more like Sami than ever. John knows that even if Will has the upper hand with EJ, it's not going to last. Maybe Marlena can get through to him and John could explain a few things about the DiMeras to Will. They agree that EJ's sloppy, and John plans on protecting his family. He'll go after the family empire!
EJ follows Sami home and berates her for accusing the mayor of murder in public. He didn't kill Stefano and needs Sami to believe that. She reminds him he failed a polygraph. He tells her they're not accurate. Maybe EJ didn't plan it and snapped under the pressure? EJ is annoyed at her deduction. He reminds her he stood by her when Kate almost had her thrown in jail. EJ goes on about how self-absorbed she is and Sami yells at him to get out. He thinks it is no wonder she'll be alone for the rest of his life. Will walks in just then giggling. "He's right." Sami snarks at EJ - look what he's done. Will sounds just like him. Talks like him. "He's going to end up with an accent." Sami again tells EJ he's guilty as hell. Will starts to laugh. They're two peas in a pod and why does EJ care what Sami thinks? Sami asks EJ to convince her of his innocence. Will leaves and Sami calls EJ 'nothing but a crook' and thinks he's capable of enjoying killing his father. EJ tries to leave but she shoves him down and forces him to listen. She hopes they lock him away for the rest of his miserable life. He tells her to back away and she tries to slap him. He catches her hand and they get closer. Sami pants. "I hate you."
Andrew brings Melanie food on a tray in the cell. She's listening to music. She hopes he's not still mad. He thinks they can be friends. She says he was right. They've the same taste in music and should go to a concert sometime. Andrew laughs, knowing it wouldn't happen because she hates him. "I don't hate you," she says and they talk about his interests. She hands him her earphones, asking him to tell her lyrics to a certain song while she runs upstairs. The door is locked. He yells at her to get back into her cell but she just wants to go home. He follows her yelling that she just made a big mistake.
Back at the square, Gabi asks Chad to take a break from his obsession with Melanie. It's unhealthy, she points out.
Gabi and Chad get ready to go cycling to the lake. Gabi picks up food at the pub and reassures Chad that this is good for him. Later, they return and Chad takes care of Gabi's leg since she took a bad fall. Chad grins as he tells her she destroyed the picnic and owes him a sandwich. He's glad she made him get out of his head. Chad receives a call from Carly who hasn't seen Mel anywhere. Chad agrees to call her if he hears from her. They hang up and Gabi assumes that Carly's lying for Mel.
