Interview: Days of Our Lives’ Molly Burnett.

    Friday, June 15 2012

    Molly Burnett (Nikki Nelson/WENN.com)
"I just want to go explore."

Molly Burnett is saying goodbye to her character Melanie, but it is a change she is excited to make. Her contract on "DOOL" was for four years, and now that her time is up, she is ready to spread her wings and see what else is out there. "I wanted to fulfill my commitment," she says. "And when it came up, it was time to do other things." Her last day of shooting in Salem is today Friday, June 15, and after that she will be leaving behind her Daytime family for new opportunities. She spoke with Soaps.com about her time on the show her new puppy Eloise and what is next for her career.

Soaps.com: How does it feel now that you are wrapping up after four years?

Molly: I will absolutely miss it. This is like home to me. When I moved to LA I was only here for four months before I landed 'Days'. And after four yeas this has been like a family to me. So it is going to be hard to leave.

Soaps.com: Your character has changed from bad girl to good girl the course of the show. which is your favorite?

Molly: Oh gosh, it is so fun being the bad girl! But I loved it all.

Soaps.com: What will you miss most about being on the show?

Molly:The people, absolutely. I have been with them for four years of my life and they have helped me and my career immensely. And I love being able to go from one place to the other in one day.

Soaps: We know from the spoilers that Melanie is going to be kidnapped. What was it like filming these scenes?

Molly: Oh we were joking around that Melanie is a professional kidnapee now! Caleb [Hunt] (Andrew Stern) is great, very talented, very funny, so we had a good time.

    Soaps.com: Any fun outtakes?

Molly:I always run into stuff all the time and because we go so fast I just keep going. There are so many! I think 15 episodes where you clearly see me run into something, wince in pain and they keep it. So any of those outtakes. I think somebody made a video once of all the bumping into stuff for Youtube.

Soaps.com: Would you consider coming back at a later date?

Molly: We parted with good spirits in a good place and respectful place so I would absolutely do that. But right now I just want to explore.

Soaps.com: What projects are you working on now?

Molly: I have a movie that I am currently attached to, a couple other movies and a couple of pilots I am working around. It is such a long process and people don’t know how much work goes into doing different things and hopefully some of it will come through.

Soaps.com: We know you have done "CSI" and "True Blood." How is Primetime different from daytime?

Molly: Primetime takes a long time. On "True Blood" we were there from 5 AM till 10 PM. You are doing tons and tons of takes and in some ways it is really cool and in some ways it is really tough. On the soap, if you are in a place emotionally, and you get there and you tape it. But in a Primetime show they have to do a bunch of takes to get different angles and get different perspectives so it is definitely a very different process.

Soaps.com: How did you decide what to submit for your Emmy reel?

Molly: First of all it was nice and short. If there is a some good stuff I like to keep it short so the person who is watching only has to sit through a little bit. I always submit something different. I wonder if that is a good or bad thing, but there was all different kinds of emotion and the people I worked with also gave a wonderful performance so that is the one I chose.

Soaps.com: How did you learn you were nominated?

Molly: Chandler (Massey) told me. We were talking the night before and I just told him he has been doing so wonderful. Truly such a wonderful job. And the next morning I wasn't even awake yet and he told me I must be doing something right too because we both got nominated. I was like 'Oh my God!'

Soaps.com: What did you do first?

Molly: The first thing I did was call my dad. I told him he better get his suit ready because he is coming with me to the Emmys because I just got nominated. He was in a business meeting and I was on speakerphone so all of his business partners started freaking out.

Soaps.com: Will you continue to continue doing "Venice?"

Molly: Yes, to the best of my knowledge. Crystal (Chappell) is working on the fourth season, and she is almost done with it. She is so talented and I am excited to see what happens.

Soaps.com: How does "Venice" compare to "Days?"

Molly: It is still a family, still a loving environment. We shot on set so it is more like a movie or Primetime show when you are on location in a trailer. We have hair and makeup trailers instead of a home base like we have here.

Soaps.com: Will it be weird not working with your boyfriend (Chad, Casey Jon Deidrick) every day?

Molly: I think they have done a really good job with Melanie and chad and the best thing an actor can do is being thrown with a bunch of people, getting different acting experiences and I am excited for him. He loves working here and I think he will do just fine.

Soaps.com: Tell us about your new puppy.

Molly: Eloise! She is so great. And Casey has a new puppy, Nanook, who is a husky who is getting big really fast. They beat the crap out of each other. Eloise is the dominating puppy because she is older by a month. She is so funny to watch and now they re picking up habits from each other. Which I think is so fun.

Soaps: Is there anything you want to say to the fans? We are really going to miss you.

Molly: Thank you so much! I want to thank the fans for all their love and support. Soap operas really do have the most loving fans. I am so thankful for them.

    Watch Molly's Emmy reel.

Just when you really get used to an actress or actor, they up and leave. They always think the grass is greener somewhere else. What they don't realize is they come to be part of our family as we watch them day after day. I am really sorry to hear Mel is leaving and I wish she would change her mind.

Good Luck Melanie in all that you do. You will be known as Melanie to many of us I am sure. You really grew on me quickly and became a big part of the show especially after Phillip and you seemed to grow so much after that as well. We will miss you tons.
