Gloria Loring Lends Her Support to Battle Juvenile Diabetes

Tuesday, April 15 2008

Days of Our Lives alum, Gloria Loring is using her considerable talents to help support the Fairfield County Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon. As the mother of a child with type 1 diabetes, Ms. Loring will not only emcee the event on May 2nd, but will also give a motivational speech and sing a song she penned for her son Brennan who was diagnosed with the disease at the age of four.

The co-chairman of the event, Julia Sperrazza is thrilled to have Gloria on board stating, "We are so happy to have Ms. Loring as emcee for our event. As the parent of a child with type 1 diabetes, Ms. Loring understands the challenges facing those who live with this chronic illness. She is a champion for the JDRF and is an inspiration to all those affected by diabetes."

Gloria has a long history of charitable works, as she received a Lifetime Commitment Award from Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International in 1999 and was given the 1999 Woman of Achievement Award from the Miss America Organization. Gloria has also written several books, with the proceeds going to the JDRF and diabetes research. Raising over $1 million, this talented mulit-hyphenate wrote Days of our Lives Celebrity Cookbook, Parenting a Child with Diabetes and The Kids, Food and Diabetes Family Cookbook. In addition, her musical recording, A Shot in the Dark has also contributed to the substantial sum she has given to help fight the disease.

JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes -- a disease that strikes children, adolescents, and adults suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than 85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Tickets to this event are $75 and aside from Gloria's presentations, will include fashions provided by Lilly Pulitzer of Greenwich, CT, a cocktail hour, luncheon and fundraising raffle. Held at The Waterview in Monroe, CT, tickets can be purchased by contacting Julie Sperrazza at Julie@powerprint.net or Nancy Seppa at (203) 431-0866.
