Days Of Our Lives Poll: Gay Storyline In The Works?

    Thursday, March 24 2011

    Chill (Soaps.com)
    Something new.

The rumor running rampant at the moment is that Salem could be bringing a gay couple on board. EW reports that set-side sources have claimed that the same sex coupling will involve one character already on the series with someone brand new. Are they going to do what Guiding Light did and have a once straight character slowly rediscover their sexuality, or will they take the path of their former sister soap Passions and launch the raunchiest and most controversial gay storyline on Daytime?

Vote in our poll and let Soaps.com know what you would like to see. Feel free to leave your comments below.

Here's the thing...I don't want a gay storyline...the main reason is that there not written well. OLTL is the only soap that pulled it off and that was squished in seconds. So until they can get some these other SL right...JUST DON'T

I surely do not want to see this storyline. Chad and Will are both hot guys and I would want to see a steamy storyline with one of the hot girls on the show or bring in some new girls. Women are the #1 viewers of this show and want to see some hot, sexy scenes of these star crossed lovers not gay storylines.

    What if they're lesbian?

I like Will. There is no way anyone is buying that he is straight. The previous Will, in my opinion, seemed gay too. I think the old Will should be brought back as a love interest for the new Will. I loved both guys individually and think they will be great together.

I think this is a good idea!, I Think Dool seen what happened with the other soaps gay characters and they can see the mistakes that were made and correct them with their Characters. the fact of the matter is , Soaps are lacking equal diversity and that could be a reason why they are failing, there is not enough characters people can relate to on daytime. and it's pretty absurd to have all these families and character and not one of them is Gay. Passions was Crazy but i was there everyday at 2 because it was enjoyable, If Days would add this kind of storyline it would probably bring new viewers over to Check the series out , New Viewers mean more Ratings for the show, All I'm saying

Ugh. I don't watch soaps to watch two guys make out. Pair Will with a real love interest - the storyline with Gabi has been really poorly done. They had no build up at all - it was like "instant couple". Put Chad with someone other than the incredibly-annoying Abigail. Why is it we have no guy friendships anymore on this show? We want to see some romances like back in the 80s and 90s. Viewers are not interested in a gay storyline - catch a clue: both Guiding Light and Passions went off the air.

I do NOT want to see a gay SL on this show. It is one of the few left without one. I don't care to see this and don't want my kids to watch it either. My husband & I usually watch this show together. If this happens neither of us will be watching. Sure, it may bring in new viewers, but I'm sure it will send more running away than it pulls in.

bugsmama what's wrong with a gay s/l? are you homophobic? I see no reason why we can't have a gay s/l on Days or any show for that matter.

I agree with a couple posters, I do not want to watch a gay storyline. I started watching passions when it first came out, once they started that didn't watch it anymore. Chrissie I don't want to see a lesbian storyline either. Lets get this straight, i am not homophobic, just don't want to see it on days. Other soaps have tried it and just doesn't work.
I like Will with Gabi, they make a cute couple.
Since a poster brought up the new abigail, I don't care for her so much, I really liked Ashley Benson.

I have to agree with GingerBombshell and Breathtaking . . . it's just not something I'm interested in watching on the one & only soap I tune in to. I grew up in music & theater (and musical theater - lol), so I've had many gay (and lesbian) friends & acquaintances in my life. At the same time, watching a blossoming relationship between a same-sex couple is just not something that would draw me in to a soap. As others have said, DAYS is one of the few shows left that's not going there. I think if there's an audience for a gay or lesbian romance, there are plenty of other shows out there to provide that - esp some of the new online soaps (one in particular that features TONS of DAYS actors & actresses!! ;-) Honestly, I just hope DAYS doesn't feel the pressure to go there. It's not being discriminatory, as there are PLENTY of races, ethnicities, religions, etc. that are not represented on DAYS, and no one is crying out for their representation. How come everyone on DAYS is a white Catholic or a Hispanic Catholic? Abe & Lexi provide the only consistent African-American representation on the show. Honestly, I think it's just a matter of what ppl want to see, and I think people are either fine with the status quo on DAYS (I never hear much complaint about it on the boards), OR, they're much more interested in pursuing more racial, ethnic, and even religious diversity than they are in a gay or lesbian s/l. According to the poll here on this site, more than 50% of the voters thus far think this idea "sounds terrible." I don't think that's an indication of certain homophobia whatsoever. The reality is, we cannot tell from a simple poll. Rather, I think it's more about what we find entertaining. And, for me personally, this type of s/l would turn me off the show rather than make me want to tune in.
