Frank Parker (Grandpa Shawn) exiting DAYS

Frank Parker says goodbye in a final way (Soaps.com)
After a twenty-five year run, Frank Parker, who portrayed Grandpa Shawn Brady Sr. since 1985, will be exiting Days of Our Lives in a final way.

Frank Parker started out in television in the 1970's where he played 'Clifford' on "CHiPS". He played in The Young and the Restless in 1972 and went on to portray 'Paddy Kelly' in 1980 on General Hospital, had stints on prime time television shows since and ended up on Days in 1983.

Parker's departure will tie in with Patsy Pease's (Kimberly Brady Donovan) brief two day return Wednesday February 27 for Grandpa Shawn's funeral. She hasn't been seen in Salem on contract since 1996, but has made brief returns to Salem in 1998, 2002 and in 2003, so this should be a great reunion to counter a sad farewell to Salem's Patriarch.

Soaps.com wants to wish Frank Parker all the best in his future and we welcome Patsy back, even for a few short days!

I've been wondering for a long time if he and his stage wife Caroline Brady have had a fight in real life because they never have them playing a scene together anymore. Is there any truth to my suspicions?

Hate to disagree but Patsy returned for her mothers "funeral" during the whole serial killer fiasco.

No, there is no truth to your suspicions, KO22. The storyline requests that the elder Brady is killed off but it has nothing to do with any rumours you may hear. In fact, you'll likely see Victor playing off Caroline a little. Fans like them together so I for one am hoping for a reunion there.

Sad to see Grandpa Shawn go, but he hasn't been on so long, we expected this.

Yes, Patsy returned for that and I should have made note of that but I was really only talking about her contract time on the show. Picky picky!! Hehe

THIS IS VERY SAD, HOW COULD YOU FIRE GRANDPA SHAWN? THIS SHOW, AND THE WRITERS REALLY DO SUCK!!! HOW COULD YOU FIRE, BILLIE, SHAWN, BELLE, ADRIANNE, AND SHAWN SR?
THE RATINGS WILL FALL MORE WAIT AND SEE!!!!!

It is always sad to see a character depart - but with Grandpa Shawn, he hasn't been on air for a long time, and this last time he has really aged. I don't think the ratings will faulter any "sharonschaller" - they still have the main characters (Bo, Hope, Lexi, Marlena, John, Abe). And we still have Great Gran Alice out there somewhere too - miss her, she has some witty lines. May you rest in peace Grandpa Shawn, you will be missed.

He will be missed. But I can totally understand why he would be written of the show. He has had a long run. I would like to see Victor and Caroline get together.

sharonschaller - The ratings won't drop from getting rid of an actor who was barely seen on screen for what... a year or more? I will miss him too! Please don't type your posts all in caps as if to yell at us! Thanks!

I'm going to miss Grandpa Shawn very much as well. They all have to leave town or die at some point, but did it have to be in the way that it was? Why not peacefully with his wife and children by his side? He deserved at least that much after all these years on the show. Not suffocating in a plane crash. I am extremely disappointed in how this turned out.

It is sad the way his is exiting I agree with Haydens mommy, It would have been nice if ALL his family could have said their goodbye's

okay, It's a Soap Opera, it's supposed to be Dramatic. If Shawn would have died in bed surrounded by the town of Salem then you wouldn't have been on the edge of your seat. I was half expecting him to wake up after the crash (having just passed out from the lack of O2) but unfortunatly that didn't happen.
And what was sharonschaller talking about with the firing of all those peop'le. If she was talking about the original actors then Sharon you need to know that they weren't fired, they just didn't renew their contracts due to other things happening in their careers.
Back to Frank, I will miss him too, Maybe they will have him do some spots (like they do with old Tom Horton footage) as Caroline tries to figure out how to deal with her feeling toward Victor and Bo's illness. Just a thought
    Sorry so long
