Interview: Mark Hapka Is Fired From Days Of Our Lives.

    Thursday, January 06 2011

    Mark Hapka (NBC)
    Hapka out.

According to Soap Opera Digest Mark Hapka (Nathan) won't be around for much longer. Hapka joined the cast as the youngest member of the Horton clan in the summer of 2009. Since then he has been embroiled in a relationship with Stephanie (Shelley Hennig) and longing for the embraces of Melanie (Molly Burnett). After the big paternity conspiracy blew up this week, there could be some major changes on the way for the character, but it doesn't look like sticking around in Salem is going to be in the cards. Hapka is due to record his final scenes in the coming weeks and will be gone by the spring.

Christine Fix spoke with Mark today, about the news and he told her, "It was creative differences and a "writers choice" for Nathan's "departure". Apparently the twist in the stretched out storyline of Melanie and Nathan's soul connection was that when finally given a chance to be together...somehow they don't. I will keep my opinions of that writing choice to myself and leave it to the general consensus of the fans. :) "Let go" works because they let me go to pursue other opportunities since they chose not to utilize me and knew I wasn't happy. I am going to miss the cast and production of the show! We created many fond memories and I'm saddened to leave them. I am however STOKED to dive into new projects/characters! Thank you all for your continued support!"

Soaps.com wishes Hapka all the best on his future endeavors.

Why, Why, Why, ...if he leave, I hope Melanie goes with him to Baltimore.....I don't think he should go now! Not when things are getting good. He can finally be with the woman he loves(Melanie). Renew his contract...

Why does DOOL always do this to themselves? Once storylines are finally looking up for certain couples they up and lose core family members. The Hortons need to be the focus -not the Hernandez's!! We've been waiting for over a year for some sort of payoff for Nathan and Melanie and this is the news we get? C'mon, DOOL -don't let the Hortons slide back into the limelight. This is really a bad decision -it almost makes you believe that the writers really have no plan at all when it comes to certain characters.

Larkin - don't you mean "slide back out of the limelight"?

This is absolutely rediculous. Nathan and Melanie belong together. He would raise Philip's baby if Melanie is pregnant because he loves her. I think they are so cute together and was hoping for a romance between them.

TPTB are killing DOOL with their stupid decisions and pairings. Plus, Nathan is one of the few Hortons left on the show. He should definitely stay.

DOOL isn't so hot anymore. Good luck to this very good actor with his other endeavors.

I read this previously today on Soap Opera Digest website. What are the ptb thinking??? The possibilities for the Nathan character are endless. I really like him and can't believe the show is doing this. I hate to say this but I almost wish Melanie would go with him just so they can be together. What's up with everything pointing in that direction just so they can drop a bomb on us? I think they are sadistic over there or something!

They did the same thing to the Arianna Hernandez character. Didn't write for her and blamed the actress. It's BS of course. It's the role that was crappy. Not the actor. If they'd written for him perhaps the role could have grown.

you can't let nathan leave the show their is so much a story line for nathan and melanie. let their romance blossom they still love each other. i'm a great fan of days, so if anyone else agrees to get the procucers to try and stop the actor leaving, will hopefully help

This is nuts - I created this account just so I could rant about this!! =) Okay, I really like his character...and I really like him with Melanie. (by herself or with Philip, not so much) I hope that if he leaves, Mel goes with him. They should be together. She shouldn't stay with Philip, and Daniel shouldn't stay with Chloe. I'm so irked right now! There are other characters that could leave, and I wouldn't care, but not Nathan. Really??? Ugh.
