    Sweet Lips!

Melanie gallops into the pub in a great mood. Max cleans glasses behind the bar as she tells him she has good news. She wants to know what he knows about EJ DiMera. She’s networking. Max doesn’t believe her, so she decides to go elsewhere to find out information. Max jokes that nobody will even talk to her in Salem. He’ll tell her what she wants to know if she gives a good reason. She explains he wants to take over and fund the alternative fuel project. Max reminds her of her deal with Titan, but she thinks the more greedy hands that want it, the richer she’ll get. She says this project is important to her and she’s doing it for Nick as well. She wants him to have something to look forward to once he gets out of jail. Max doesn’t like the sound of a bidding war and encourages her to stick to her binding verbal agreement. Melanie knows that though Philip gave her a job, he seems to get a kick out of following her around and treating her with distain. Philip enters the pub and wants a word alone with Melanie. They take a seat and Philip tells her he’s embarrassed about the reason he tracked her down. He didn’t want to eat alone. Melanie calls that sweet. That’s the first word she’d use to describe him, she says, with a grin and he asks her to discuss the bio-fuel project. Melanie becomes nervous and tells him she’s got someplace to be. She dashes off, promising to discuss it later. Philip goes to Max and Max tells him to stay away from his sister! Philip finds this funny and thinks it’s about dating Stephanie, but Max denies it. If it were about her, Max would say so. He knows Melanie can take care of herself, he knows how important the fuel project is to Titan and wants him to back off and treat Melanie with respect. Philip reminds Max that he gave Melanie a job when nobody would. She alienates everyone she comes into contact with. Once Philip walks away, a mysterious package is delivered to Max.

Chelsea and Max meet Melanie, Stephanie and Philip outside the courthouse. Chelsea is upset that everyone's acting as though it's a normal day, but their friend is going to jail for a long time. Nick comes out with a guard and tells Chelsea he wasn't sure he'd see her again. She apologizes that she was working and couldn't make it earlier. Nick says he sent a copy of his alternative fuel project to Mickey to be sent to Max. He asks both Max and Chelsea to promise him they'll keep it out of the wrong hands.

Back in the courthouse, Nick asks Max to speak with Chelsea alone. Once Max leaves, Nick tells Chelsea that he wouldn't trade the time they spent together for anything and apologizes for not being there for her lately, but Chelsea understands. She blames the pills. She's sure that he'll get help and his old self will return. She promises to visit him, saying he's important to her, as well as many others. She cries as she tells him she has regrets, too, and tells him he'll always be in her heart. They hug and Chelsea leaves.

    Out Of Control!

At the pub, Maggie tells Max that Nick is being sentenced today, but that Nick doesn't want Max, or anyone else to go.

Max bumps into Stephanie at the pub. He says he hasn't got time for her. He's off to see Nick at his sentencing, though he only wants Melanie and Maggie there. Stephanie's going and calls Philip to let him know that she knows why Melanie wanted to take the morning off.

An uncomfortable Melanie and anxious Maggie arrive at the courtroom, where Nick is waiting. Melanie tells him to hang in there, and Max and Stephanie arrive, Maggie is thankful. Lip quivering, she runs off, while Stephanie tells Melanie that Philip would have understood if she'd have told him. Nick wanted it kept a secret, Melanie tells her. Philip walks in and Judge Fitzpatrick comes in to preside. A crying Maggie takes the stand and calls Nick a good boy with a good heart, who wasn't himself. She asks that Nick is shown mercy. Melanie stands up, asking to say something. She forgives Nick, saying her father was a victim, but so was he. "You trusted other people too much and you never got a fair shake." She asks the judge to be lenient and calls Nick a good person. Nick tears up as Melanie cries and asks that they not put him in prison for the rest of his life. She says everyone who knows Nick will lose so much. Maggie hugs Melanie when she comes off the stand, but Philip looks at Melanie, puzzled. Judge Fitzpatrick has decided not to go for life, instead, Nick must serve between two and five years. With good behavior, he can get parole, after 18 months. Maggie hugs a relieved Nick, Max hugs him and Stephanie tells him they've been praying for him. Philip goes to Melanie and calls what she did incredibly selfless, but she brushes it off to doing the right thing. She asks if she redeemed herself, thinking he thought she was a total loser. He never did, he admits and when Stephanie comes upon them, he tells them he moved the alternative fuel project to this afternoon. Stephanie tells Melanie she did a good thing. Melanie goes to Nick, who is grateful. He asks if it's because he gave her the rights to his fuel project and she says it wasn't, so he asks if it's because of Philip. She looks startled and admits maybe a little. She thought he'd like her or be nicer to her, but she really feels Nick's a good person and deserves a second chance. She hugs him and leaves, crying.

John arrives at the pub and tells Marlena he had his first hypnotherapy session tonight. She's excited until he tells her he remembered nothing. He doesn't want to go back but Marlena tells him about the background check she has done that has come up good. "She's a keeper," she tells him, causing him to ask if she's giving him permission to date her. Marlena is talking about Dr. Taylor's qualifications, she retorts, which are good enough for a second chance, in her opinion. John agrees to give Charlotte one more session and leaves. Afterward, Marlena is puzzled by a call she makes to somebody who knows Charlotte. She finds out that Charlotte left Minneapolis and says, "That does seem odd."

Nearby, Max and Chelsea take a seat and Max admits he's happy he decided to go to the party. They agree Victor livened things up and Chelsea still can't believe Kate and Daniel broke up. Max asks if she's going to make a move on him now, which upsets Chelsea. "That's annoying, you already asked me that at the party," she complains, then reassures Max that she has zero interest in Daniel and wonders why he cares! He jokes that now she and Kate can do speed dating together. They discuss how it's nice not to be dating and have to deal with jealousy. Just then, Michelle, a waitress comes to them and asks for their order. When Max orders perfectly for Chelsea, she laughs and orders a perfect meal for him. The waitress calls them a cute couple, causing them to become annoyed.
