At the fishing cabin, Bo tells Hope they're leaving. He wants to turn themselves in and Hope agrees that trying to work out a deal is the best solution. Hope will serve time in a different prison, away from the warden. Bo suggests they call Roman but needs to use the gas station payphone to call a line that isn't tapped. Bo leaves her his gun, in case something happens. He also hands her a barrette that Ciara gave him. Once he leaves, Hope dreams about telling Ciara that she and Bo will come home to her. Ciara asks if her parents are back together. Hope wakes, saying they're not together.
At the bar, Sami finds out Shawn's not thrilled with John giving them a boat but he'll go along with it because it makes Belle happy. Claire's finished with her juice and they joke they'll need a bigger boat just for Claire's juice boxes! Sami tells Shawn that their grandparents would be happy for them. They discuss Grandpa Shawn and how much they miss him and Sami says when they're out there sailing, he'll be able to look up at the stars and know he's out there looking down on them. Shawn hugs Sami in thanks. Shawn tells everyone it's time to go and Belle tells them it's a fresh start. She wishes they could come but Sami comments they haven't a boat big enough for all the Bradys! Shawn says Salem's their home and they can't stay away forever.
Sami waits for Lucas at Alice's place and when she calls, he doesn't pick up. Later, Billie and Ali show up, Billie says Lucas isn't coming. She tells Sami of the earlier conversation she had with Lucas and how he wanted her to take care of Ali if something happened to her. Sami cries and runs to find Lucas. Doug, Julie, Maggie, Sami all put up their Christmas bulbs. Belle, Shawn and Claire hang theirs while Bo and Hope hang their own. Maggie notices that Jeremy's is broken and they agree to fix it later.
Back at Alice's house, Doug sings a lovely rendition of "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" while Chelsea and Nick arrive. Billie and Ali, Belle, Shawn, Claire, Bo, Hope and Ciara, Chelsea and Nick and Alice all listen intently. We see Alice by the piano in a chair and with Hope beside her, Alice holds Tom's photo to her and says, "Merry Christmas Tom". The others say, "Merry Christmas!"
Outside the dry cleaners, Marlena and Steve watch the snow fall.
Outside the pub Bo promises to try to keep Belle's name out of the setup and tells Shawn that he and Belle need to have a long talk. Bo enters the pub and before he blurts out anything about the setup, Shawn takes him aside. Hope goes off for tea and Shawn asks Bo not to tell Hope that Belle helped plant the gun.
Belle takes Claire downstairs and is nervous when she sees Bo and Shawn talking. Hope notices and asks what's up. Belle says she refuses to do 'this' in front of Claire and Hope says, "It's Christmas." Belle goes to Bo and says there is a tree- lighting ceremony at Salem Place she's taking Claire to. Bo takes Hope outside and spills about what went down at Philip's office.
Later, at the pub, Belle tells Shawn Claire is baking cookies with Caroline. She asks Shawn why Bo is distant with her. Shawn replies that Bo knows about the gun scheme. Belle is upset but Shawn says he tried to keep her name out of it but Bo guessed she was involved. Belle worries about Philip and Shawn reassures her it'll be fine. He leaves the bar while Belle calls Philip to tell him he betrayed her. Philip argues that Shawn is the one who betrayed her.
Upstairs, Hope and Claire watch Sami help Belle prepare for the wedding. Marlena brings up "something new" for Belle, which is the purity rings she had put on a chain. She says," They don't have the same meaning as they once did. They now mean love and fidelity for the rest of your lives."
Maggie gives Belle something old and when Philip calls Belle from the pub, she quickly hangs up on him. When he calls back, this time Belle lies that it's Mimi, and asks for privacy. After they've left Belle says, "Damnit Philip I'm not doing this with you, not today! I'm getting married today and there is nothing you can do to stop me!" She hangs up the phone.
At the Brady's, the wedding is about to begin. Sami comes down the stairs, and then Chelsea and Claire follow with Marlena and Belle close behind. Abe and Lexi grin from ear to ear as Belle walks down the aisle. When Belle sees the watch on Shawn's arm, a look of horror crosses her face and she flashes back to Philip getting the very same watch caught in her hair. She flashes back to having sex with Philip.
Belle sees Philip when she looks at Shawn, and Marlena tells Belle her daddy's here, on her right side. "He's always with us." she encourages. Belle grins and starts crying as Hope, Steve and Steve look on. The wedding vows begin.
Shawn tells Belle it seems like a million years ago since they first got together and that things haven't gone as planned but his love has never changed for her. "You're everything that I need Belle," he says and goes on to say he can't imagine being anywhere but at her side. Belle cries and smiles while Shawn places a ring upon her finger. She says, she remembers in high school when they gave each other the purity rings and that they're a symbol of their deep commitment of how their love from this day forward will be pure. Shawn kisses her hand and she sees the watch. "Stop. I can't do this…" she says, sniffling. She makes a quick recovery and apologizes and says she's trying to remember what she was going to say but he keeps interrupting her. A sigh of relief is heard through the house as Belle tells him she's glad Shawn fought for her and Claire and that this proved that he loved her. "My dad wasn't the only hero in my life." she says and thinks if John were here today he'd be happy and at peace, knowing his baby girl was in good hands. She promises to be a good wife, to love Shawn and be faithful to him as long as they both shall live then slips a ring on his finger. "With this ring I make that pledge." The priest pronounces them husband and wife and they both smile and laugh as they stare into each other's eyes. Belle and Shawn share their first kiss as husband and wife!
At the pub, Doug makes a speech about Shawn and Belle after telling the family, Shawn Sr. simply had indigestion. Doug says this year, lost loves were reunited; they welcomed new members to the family and lost someone close to them. He brings up the loss of John and says John's there with them in spirit. "Dear God we miss you John, we always will," he says and he welcomes Belle into the family.
Shawn and Belle dance and stare into each other's eyes happily while the family looks on and Edwin McCain's song, "I'll Be (Your Crying Shoulder) plays in the background. Chelsea and Nick kiss and start to dance. While Julie takes Johnny and Maggie takes Ali, Lucas takes Sami's hand and they get on the dance floor. She asks him where they go from here and he kisses her cheek and tells her it's up to her.
Steve congratulates Belle and Shawn and they thank Steve for helping get Claire back.
At the pub, Steve fumbles around behind the bar for the gun hidden there. Bo comes out and catches him. Steve hands the gun over without resisting. 'Did you shoot junior?' Bo asks. Steve starts playing darts and tells them that the gun hasn't been fired. Then why is he hiding it? Bo wonders. Steve insists that he was at the auto parts store when EJ was shot. Bo asks him to go over there with him and check the surveillance tapes. Steve changes his story: He was really at the church. The DiMeras stole years of his life; years he could have spent with his wife and child. He did go to the church to shoot EJ, but when he got there, he decided it wasn't worth it. Besides, if he shot EJ, he'd be dead, not lying in a hospital bed. Bo looks at the gun and sees that the serial number has been filed off. He tells Steve that they have to go to ballistics and have it tested. Steve asks Shawn if he thinks that he's telling the truth. 'I hope so, for Kayla's sake,' Shawn says. 'You sound like a politician....maybe you should run for office,' Steve smiles as Bo leads him out. Later, Belle goes into the pub to show Shawn the dress she bought for Claire. They start talking about their days and he tells her that it looks like Steve was involved in the shooting. Belle is impressed that Shawn is turning out to be a good cop. He smiles; they seem to be getting close to everything they've ever wanted. She becomes uncomfortable and blurts out: 'I want to marry you!' He's confused by this outburst. Is there some reason she shouldn't want to marry him? She gulps. He assumes that she must have been with Philip but she claims that she only has 'stage fright' and he shouldn't worry. He leaves with Claire's dress so she can try it on. Alone, she thinks of Philip and picks up her phone but doesn't call. Shawn returns with Claire in her dress. Belle tells him she can't wait until they're married. He kisses her and tells her to stop worrying. Suddenly, Hope calls and Belle nervously prepares to go. Shawn reminds her that the next time they see each other will be at the altar.
At the hospital, Philip wants to take Belle and Claire for ice cream but Belle puts her foot down and tells him to stop using Claire to get to her. Philip denies doing this and says when he was a kid, his father gave him ice cream after he fell off his bike. He wants Claire's Uncle Phil to give her the same treatment. Instead of ice cream, he asks if he can take Claire to see Sami. Belle's confused as to why Sami's at the hospital and is shocked when he quietly explains that EJ was shot. A worried Belle calls Shawn but his phone is still at the PD, so she leaves another message.
