Austin whisks the children away leaving Sami to face off against Marlena. She didn’t invite her, she doesn’t want her there. Will comes to Marlena’s defense, and later confronts Sami for renewing her vows so soon. Sooner or later Rafe will figure out who she is just like he did. He threatens to tell everyone there what he means. The two have words before Rafe reminds them it’s Christmas. Taking a moment together on a bench, Bo surprises his FancyFace with a first edition book of poetry he originally gave Hope years ago and then a necklace that overwhelms her. They profess their love and kiss. Meanwhile, Mel catches up with Abby by the tree and they chat about Chad. Mel is sure he’ll love the gift from her. Nearby, Nicole praises EJ for not interrupting Abe’s Santa speech. Later, alone in the square, Marlena takes a moment and flashes to a kiss with John. His voice takes her out of the memory and into the present as he stands right behind her. She’s overwhelmed by emotion as she realizes he’s a free man and they kiss under the mistletoe. Carrie and Austin wander over and he thanks them while telling Marlena how they freed him. In the background, Hope and Bo taunt EJ and Nicole about John’s freedom and about EJ’s schemes to become mayor. Soon Lexi and Abe show up and while Abe watches, EJ threatens to follow through to the bitter end. Bo and Hope come by next and John enthusiastically thanks them saying checking the Internet outages was a stroke of brilliance. Soon Rafe and Sami come by to officially invite John and Marlena to their ceremony. They accept.

Bo and Hope admire the Christmas tree at Alice’s as Hope misses her Gran. The family comes in and listens to a toast by Doug thanking Alice and Tom for always reminding them what family and love are all about. They exchange gifts and enjoy Christmas Eve together.
