I agree with everything you've said SandraJ. Put everyone out of their misery and cancel the show.

I DON’T WANT the show cancelled, I want it improved so it can stay on the air. The purpose of this thread is for them to realize the things that we want so that it’s not cancelled. I want my soaps, NOT SOME STUPID NEWS SHOW.

I know that's why when I read those type of comments I don't normally address them. And the inflaming threads on the board. It's hard to hold my tongue or my fingers from going off on people or things but I try really hard to adhere to the golden rule.

I don’t understand the reasoning of people who want things cancelled and yet they’re still on the message boards. If they hate it so much turn it off and distance yourself completely from the show including the boards, it’s that simple. I usually try to ignore these types of posts but I wanted it known to TPTB that not everyone feels they want the show cancelled.

The other day I was on msn.com dell and looking up olympic stuff and they had Days of Our Lives trending. I wasn't looking up anything or posting about Days....plus on getglued.com the show has trended in the top 10 recently everyday. I think we have a lot of potential. I think NBC, Sony and Universal are behind Days still. If you aren't aware the show is having a different star tweet daily while the Olympics are on.

They saved the best for last. I hope fans don't scare James too much!

What scares me the most about the future of Days is that I can't see a good outcome. On a brighter note I had quit watching GH and within a year the writers have brought it back to what I remember loving about soaps. I have my favorites but I am really enjoying the writing and the acting for the WHOLE show. If my favorites don't get together that's OK because I am being entertained. They have wonderful character acting (Luke,Tracy,Anthony,Spinelli,Heather). Does Days have ANY character actors because I can't think of any?? Please tell me if there are some because maybe I am missing something. My point is that a show can change with the right head writer and executive producer. I hope this is the time for Days.

DOOL used to have good character actors that would be the veterans of the show during my favorite era of early 80’s-early 90’s but now even with the veterans the show is mostly about plot point characterization. The veterans can only do so much with the material that they’re provided with.

I’m pulling over my post that I did on the thread for Dallas vs. DOOL.

I want to say how much I love Dallas and I think that DOOL needs to learn a lot from those writers. Here are a few things that really make me notice the differences between these two soaps.

Dallas knows how to balance its cast and the interaction between the vets & the newbies is awesome. This show only comes on 1 night a week and yet I can see a lot of the characters in that episode. As for DOOL this soap comes on 5 days a week and it saddens me how underutilized all of their characters are being shown or not shown. There are certain characters (I won’t say who) that are constantly on 4 or 5 days a week which I don’t think is necessary when other characters aren’t seen for months. Every single character that Days has should be able to be on that week or every other week.

Dallas is a character based drama; you know who the good and bad guys are, you know where they stand in the grand scheme of things. After 21 years of being off the air JR & Bobby and the rest of the vets I recognize who they are supposed to be because the writers took the time to know their history of being on the show. DOOL right now only does plot driven stories with plot driven characterization that whiplash characters behaviors around that I hardly recognize them because the show doesn’t allow for us to understand the motivation of why they’re doing the things they’re doing. The only way I can accept a character’s personality change is if I see it happen gradually and it makes me understand their reasoning.

I also like that on Dallas the main story is the oil business they don’t have a bunch of other s/l going on that confuses the issue. On DOOL they have several different s/l and then they would drop a couple for several months and bring it up again and you wonder why is this here again (example Maggie’s eggs). DOOL needs to consider in just having one big main plot which then has smaller sub-plots connected to it. It will make the soap have better cohesion, pacing and not as choppy.

TPTB keep saying that people are no longer interested in soaps and it’s a dying genre which I think Dallas has proven them wrong. The only thing that’s dead is the lack of writer’s creativity and consistency to engage the audience.
