Original article April 3:

Serial Scoop has reported that "Days" star and Daytime Emmy nominee Freddie Smith (Sonny) will be departing from the soap. Neither the actor nor NBC has issued a public confirmation of this rumor so far. However, Soap Opera Digest has confirmed the initial report. Details of when he will depart and whether or not the role might be recast have not been released. Because of the show's shooting scheduling, viewers can expect to see him in episodes for another five to six months. Soaps.com will update you as more information becomes available.

Smith joined the cast of "Days of our Lives" in 2011. Since then, his character romanced and married Will Horton (Guy Wilson) before their relationship went on the skids. Smith was recently sentenced to 2 years of community control for vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
