Former "Days of our Lives" casting director Fran Bascom died on June 2. She was brought into Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA on Sunday following an illness. The cause of death has not been released.
Bascom had her own casting agency, Fran Bascom Casting, and worked for the soap from 1998 until 2007. Bascom was responsible for bringing Blake Berris (Nick), Darin Brooks (ex-Max), Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe) and Jay Kenneth Johnson (ex-Philip) among others to the series. On his Facebook page, Steve Blackwood (ex-Bart) wrote, "Heard through Patrika Darbo (ex-Nancy) that Fran Bascom, former casting director on 'Days of our Lives,' died last night. She came and saw me in a play in LA years ago and cast me in several day player parts before casting me as Bart on the show- which was a Godsend for my career at the time. I'm sure I speak for all the actors when I say Fran will be missed by everyone who knew her... I, personally, will miss her humanity very much... She (and Ron) were very kind. RIP Fran."
Bascom's career spanned back to the mid 1970s and included work on "Isis," "Lou Grant," "Designing Women," "Evening Shade" and "Women Of The House." Soaps.com sends our condolences to her family and friends.
