"She is going to go way deeper than I think anybody could imagine."

Camila Banus' character Gabi Hernandez has gotten herself mixed up with the wrong person, and it is about to affect a lot of people in Salem. Viewers may be shocked at the lengths this once-sweet girl is going to get her man, but Banus spoke with to explain where Gabi's head is at, where this will all end up, and how the heck she knows Andrew. Gabi has gone from being this sweet, innocent little sister to Rafe. Now she is doing all kinds of things. What do you think is behind the change in her behavior?

Camila: Well, there are so many things I think are going on in Gabi’s head that nobody gets to see. It is really cool to see this kind of change and it is really fun to play the dark side of Gabi. Because, you know, everyone has a dark side. And I think that a lot of the things that are brewing, kind of aiding this change, is it comes from actually really far back, starting from Arianna’s death. I feel like a lot of things were left in the open and a lot of things were kind of not very clear. And honestly, Gabi felt very close to Arianna and she references Arianna all the time and it always makes her really emotional. From there on, I think things have never been the same. And when she was with Will, she loves him and cares a lot about him, but honestly she knows that things were not completely 100 percent, and when they do break up and he comes out to her, she always honestly feels like everything is her fault. And she blames herself for a lot of things. So when somebody does that and just points the finger at themselves, there are a lot of feelings, a lot of dark feelings that that are internal. I feel like Gabi, is at the point where she is at, she needed somebody to take care of her because she has been taking care of herself. And the only person that she feels comfortable with or that sees something is there was with Chad, even if it was fabricated. Because it was, she created a little bit of a history that they never really had. But in her mind, they had those moments. And that is okay, because she kind of needs that to dream about. She needs that to have. That is her sanity. She sees Chad with Melanie and realizes she is not the girl for Chad. Gabi is the girl for Chad. So she focuses all her time and devotes her energy to making sure that is clear to him. At the point where they are at, I think she would do a lot to get that, and that is where she is at right now. Her family is out of town and Rafe is kind of busy, so no one is looking out for her. Is that a problem too?

Camila: Of course. Look at it this way. Gabi lives on top of the pub. Grandma Caroline rents her a room and Gabi lives on her own. If you really think about it, this young girl is extremely independent, responsible and she has been on her own for a little bit. Even Dario, who is much older than her, stayed with Rafe at his loft. But Gabi is alone and Rafe has his own thing going on. Dario is in Argentina. Arianna is gone. And so she is very alone. She is a family girl and loves taking care of family. When something is wrong the first thing she does is take on that mother role. She needs to do it and she needs to do it now. Not to have them there is very difficult and she does feel very alone. The only people she can turn to are her friends. And in this case she wants a male figure in her life and she sees that in Chad. Does Gabi still feel bad about what happened with her and Will or does she understand that Will being gay was the only reason he did not want to be with her?

Camila: It is interesting because during our breakup scenes and a little bit before that, Gabi always told Will that what she was doing was wrong, she was the one who was messing up and pushing him away. And when he does come out to her she still has those feelings. ‘I made you gay, what did I do wrong? I am a horrible person. I had this other guy that I liked who also turned gay. She does feel a little bit of that but especially at this point after the scenes that we had where he came out, Gabi kind of understands that this is something he has been carrying and has not been able to express. Deep down she does feel hurt, she does feel like it is her fault. I think that happens in relationships just like this all the time, anywhere. I feel like a lot of women can relate because they are putting a lot of effort into a relationship and they are not getting anything in return. They don’t know what it is. They don’t know if it is them and the only person they can blame is themselves because they see this man that can be wonderful and they don’t know what it is. And so I think that the way they wrote Gabi feeling that way is very natural and very real and at the end of the day they can kind of understand. But it is something he had inside, but there is always going to be a feeling there that maybe she could have prevented it. How well does Gabi know Andrew?

Camila: Gabi knows Andrew because he is a photographer’s assistant at the Countess Wilhelmina shoots. She doesn’t know him really well, but I guess she would know him because he has been at the shoots she has been in. We know that Gabi is a good person, but when she is faced with the knowledge that he does have Melanie she keeps quiet. Will she come clean or has she gone too far?

Camila: That is a really hard question to answer because when I read those scenes that she did not say anything I felt really weird about that because Melanie, deep down, is really her friend. And honestly, she really does care about Melanie a whole lot and never wants to see her get hurt. But at this point where she is at, I think she is in so deep that to really see her right now would be worse than just holding her there and keeping her safe. That is her main focus. Making sure that Andrew has not hurt her at all. I feel like Gabi, oh my gosh, she is going in so deep, and honestly, it is going to go deeper and it is really scary. How does Gabi really feel about Chad? Does she truly love him or is she just confused?

Camila: Honestly, I feel like it is an infatuation. She is obsessed with having the ideal boyfriend because she has never had an ideal boyfriend. The person she thought was the ideal boyfriend turned out to be gay. I feel like in her mind, she knows she deserves to be happy to be cared for and all those things that come with having an amazing man in your life. And I feel like she thinks that Chad can give that to her. I feel like she thinks she just deserves. What does Gabi think Rafe would think about all this?

Camila: Gabi respects Rafe so much. That is her big brother and who she will go to if she ever needs anything. But she knows that if he ever found out that she did this, he would have her shipped to a nunnery and she would never see the light of day again. And even if he found out that she was actually being stalked, she would confine her to a room and never let her leave. So She doesn’t want him to find out. This is something that is so embarrassing. Who would want to tell anybody they have gone to these extreme measures just to get attention from someone? It is so embarrassing, and it is pitiful what she has done and never wants to tell anyone ever. Any teasers about what is to come for Gabi? We are all so nervous.

Camila: I am very nervous for Gabi. She is going in very deep and she is going to go go way deeper than I think anybody could imagine. A lot of things happen because of the things that she does and everything spirals out of proportion and she indirectly affects a lot of people’s lives. I don’t think she realizes that it does, but her actions affect a lot of people. How is it going to be without filming with Molly (Burnett) every day?

Camila: It is going to be really hard. We have shot so many things together recently and I have just gotten to know her so well. It is so fun to work with her and honestly she is just a ball of energy and light and wonderful to be around. Everyone around here is going to miss her a lot because she is so awesome to be around. Anything else you want to say to the fans?

Camila: I want to tell them to be patient with me. The girl they one knew will come back.
