    Pilot: Changing Of The Guard.

    Wednesday, June 13 2012
Bobby has cancer, JR is depressed and John Ross and Bobby start a war.

An oil crane is set up on the fields of Southfork Ranch. Elena picks up a reading and wakes up John Ross. They eagerly await the oil popping the top of the crane and when it does they all celebrate with the crew. It is flowing at 10,000 barrels. John Ross and Elena kiss. He has staked everything on this. Later, they all celebrate at a bar and John Ross gifts everyone a weekend getaway on him. He passes some money to one of them under the table for not telling Bobby he was drilling on South Fork. In an alley out back, John Ross meets up with a mystery person and tells them to hope for the best, prepare for the worst and to stay tuned.

Bobby’s doctor meets him in his office and tells him he has a rare form of cancer. He needs to start oral chemotherapy right away. Bobby does not want his family to know. His son is getting married and he has family business to attend to before anyone knows he is dying. At the ranch, Bobby rides a horse across the property. He goes inside and speaks with his wife Ann about visiting China and going on a cruise. He wants to do something for her for once. They kiss.

At the country club, Christopher pulls out frozen methane for a potential investor. The shore line contains more energy than all the oil and gas on earth combined. The investor and his partner are in – at 90/10 split, take it or leave it. He leaves it and his fiancée Rebecca walks up. They run off and start making out in the locker room where they are recognized by someone who suggests they save something for the honeymoon.

Bobby visits JR in the assisted living facility. He has clinical depression. Bobby pulls up a chair and tells him their fights changed him in ways he doesn’t like. He wants their sons to have a chance at being family without all the bitterness and bad blood. He misses him and still loves him. He leans in for a kiss, then leaves.

At the ranch, Christopher tells his dad he turned down the investor’s offer and Bobby wonders why he won’t take money from him. At dinner, Elena encourages John Ross to tell Bobby about the oil when he offers Elena up to be a bridesmaid for Rebecca and Rebecca insists. Sue Ellen asks Bobby if he has seen JR, and Bobby encourages John Ross to go before it is too late. Bobby stands up to say something. He is selling Southfork. John Ross tells him to get in his truck and come with him. At the drill site, Bobby is livid. He is sick of the family devouring themselves over money. He promised Ellie there would be no drilling on Southfork. John Ross and Christopher fight before Bobby pulls them apart. There will be no drilling.

At home, Rebecca fixes Christopher up. He thinks John Ross is using Elena. Elsewhere John Ross tells Elena that Bobby forced his hand. Bobby and Christopher are in their office with lawyer Mitch when they are served with injunction papers from John Ross. The grounds: mental instability. Bobby is going to give John Ross the fight of his life. Later, Bobby has papers served to John Ross to stop drilling.

Elena meets Rebecca at the bridal salon. She tells Elena she met Chris when he was a boy running away from home. She knows Elena wishes the best for him and she is going to make him happy.

At work, Christopher video chats with his partner in China. There has been a big disaster and their work is not safe. A lab tech overhears and leaves. Later, Bobby wakes up at home and Ann gets him something for his stomach. She sees an intruder and grabs a shotgun. He gets away but she finds Bobby’s chemo drugs. She looks them up online and realizes he has cancer and she cries. The intruder goes to Christopher’s lab and downloads something.

John Ross visits JR at his facility and tells him Bobby kicked him off the ranch. He hit a 2 billion barrel reserve but Bobby won’t let him drill. Selling it to a conservancy is BS, since he is going to turn around and give the money to Christopher for his alternative energy. And he is not even a Ewing. JR speaks. Bobby was always a fool. He grabs John Ross grabs him and forgives him for not visiting.

Outside Southfork, John Ross asks Elena to spy on Christopher. They are outsiders and will always be. She agrees and goes in. She sees the website about the China accident and he tells her everything. She wants him to be happy and is sorry about his work. She leaves and reports to John Ross they only talked about the injunction and wedding.

The ranch is set up for the wedding. Bobby shows Marta from the land conservancy and he shows her around. Christopher wants to talk to Bobby before he does anything. Later, John Ross looks at the disk and realizes Christopher’s work is dangerous. He tells Christopher to get Southfork off the market of he will expose him as a fraud. Christopher finds Elena and accuses her of telling John Ross, but she didn’t. She accuses him about the email he sent her on their wedding day calling it off, but he did not send it. He goes outside and grabs John Ross, accusing him of sending it. Then he tells Bobby about the danger and does not want him to sell for his sake. But Bobby tells Marta he is moving forward and John Ross is livid. Christopher and Rebecca get married and after he shares a look with Elena. Everyone is happy in that moment.

John Ross gets drunk and visits JR in the facility. He introduces Marta and JR tells him her daddy and him go way back. John Ross realizes she has been working he the whole time. JR is a trustee to the will, and he belongs on Southfork. It is his, only his. Bobby might not be stupid but he is a hell of a lot smarter. Outside, a mystery car from the alley approaches. It is Marta, meeting him at Cowboy Stadium. It appears these two have been working together. They Kiss.

    Hollie’s Take:

I was born n 1978, the same year "Dallas" premiered. I was vaguely aware of it as I was growing up, but didn’t really get my footing in Primetime soaps until "Beverly Hills, 90210" was new to the scene. But when "Dallas" was coming back, I knew I had to brush up and I was not disappointed. I immersed myself in old episodes and pretty much thought the new version could not live up. I was wrong. The continuation of old storylines is seamless, JR is just as amazingly bad as always and the new generation is already offering up plenty of intrigue. In two words: Love it!

Great recap, and great episode. I too was surprised at how well it was done.

John Ross I think everyone walked away going WOW. EVIL EVIL EVIL.

I too didn't think it would measure up and I thought oh lord they are over hyping this show and I didn't expect to watch it but TNT is brilliant at making summer shows work for them and this was just as good as when I watched Dallas the first time.

Hollie - good recap but typos really make it hard to understand at times. Is it he said or she said? etc. Just a little constructive critisim. When I type fast I leave words or letters out as well. I try to reread what I write before hitting post, but there are times I don't and I get confused on my own writing. Now back to the show...

I watched the original Dallas faithfully so I have been excitedly waiting for this!!!

I didn't get a chance to watch it last night. It's recorded on my DVR and I will watch it this evening. I'm so excited!

JR: I cannot believe that he is in an assisted living facility instead of at South Fork. How did that happen? Jock and Ellie Mae were on SF until their deaths. JR and Sue Ellen raised a horrible child that won't even take care of his own father. Not to mention Sue Ellen. Not even taking care of her own husband. But JR has been a sour grape since day one and perhaps it's karma. So strange to see the all mighty powerful JR sitting in a wheel chair looking all frail. Well not so frail because he does look angry!

John Ross - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! What a jerk. What I don't get is Bobby has promised that no drilling will happen on South Fork but yet he will sell it? That makes no sense.

I am a little confused as to what is going on by just the recaps so I'm sure it will all come together better once I watch the episode!

The one thing that bugs me is John Ross and Christopher have aged perhaps 10-15 years since the original show, yet Bobby and JR have aged 30+ years. They look more like grandfather and grandson's than father and sons.

Thanks soaps.com for putting up a board for Dallas. I really enjoyed watching the two shows and just discovered the new site this morning...the posters comments will be fun to read. Thanks again.

    Radmommy

I concur....Bobby and JR look more like grandparents! They should have gotten older actors for Christopher and John Ross!

I didn't watch the first few episodes and when I went online it would only allow me to watch the last 4 episodes. I have comcast and went to on demand and it wasn't there either. I think I missed 2 or 3 shows the pilot above and the 2 others. What is a safe website I can go on so I can go back and watch them?
