    Ewing family. (TNT)
    21 years later...

January 31, Soaps.com reported that TNT was launching a Dallas reboot. The Primetime soap which started in 1978, ended in 1991, and now fans are wandering back into the lives of the characters 21 years later, along with their tween children, John Ross Ewing III (Josh Henderson), ex-"Passions" star Jesse Metcalfe (Christopher Ewing), Jordana Brewster (Elena Ramos), Brenda Strong (Ann Ryland Ewing), Steve Kanaly (Ray Krebbs), Charlene Tilton (Lucy Ewing), Julie Gonzalo (Rebecca Sutter), Marlene Forte (Carmen Ramos), Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing), Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing), and Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Ewing.

Die-hard "Dallas" fans will recall the wealthy Texan family who were in the oil and cattle-ranching industry and had one hell of a dysfunctional family. The matriarch in the family was the sweet, mild-mannered Miss Ellie, Ellie Ewing (Barbara Bel Geddes), married to tough and hard-working Jock Ewing (Jim Davis), who had two sons, J.R. (Hagman) and Bobby (Duffy "Bold and The Beautiful"). The sons couldn't be more different. Powerful and vicious J.R. was married to bitter alcoholic Sue Ellen (Gray) who put up with her husband’s cheatin’ ways while they raised their small child, John Ross Jr., while Bobby’s wife Pamela (Victoria Principal) seemed to be the mediator of the family, who after trying in vain to conceive a child, finally adopted Christopher, the biological son of sister-in-law Sue Ellen’s sister Kristen Shepard and Jeff Farraday. Are you still following? Bobby was the 'good son', the kindly one.

Throughout the series viewers saw a lot of greed, loads of scandalous behavior and of course tons of ‘sleeping around’. The show was famous for cliffhangers and the mystery of "Who shot J.R.," along with the "Dream Season," which revealed the entire eighth season to be Pamela's nightmare. The actress admitted in an interview that none of the cast knew Bobby (Duffy) was returning after the show killed him off the year previous, so his return was a huge shock to all. The storyline resulted in many character changes, many storyline amendments, and a great loss of viewership. As you can imagine, there would have been continuity errors and those newer characters would be gone, while characters killed off would make a return.

    Ewing brothers. (TNT)
Over the years, "Dallas" boasted many talented actors and actresses from other soap operas including "Bold and The Beautiful’s" own Lesley-Anne Down (Jackie Marone) played a brief part in the spring of 1990 as Stephanie Rogers in PR who tried to make Pamela’s brother Cliff Barnes into a powerful political figure. Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester) preceded her in portraying Leslie Stewart in 1981, another PR agent working with Ewing Oil who secretly taped conversations with JR in order to use them against him.

Susan Lucci (Erica, "All My Children,") played Hillary Taylor from 1990-1991. She was a psychotic kidnapper who caused Bobby’s wife April Steven’s death in Paris during their honeymoon. Very soapy!

Old school soap opera fans will remember Morgan Fairchild (Jenna Wade) also played crazy Jennifer Pace on "Search For Tomorrow," Constance Carlyle on "Flamingo Road," and Racine on "Paper Dolls." She of course went on to play Debbie Tompkins/Sydney Chase on "The City," she played the lead, Sophia Blakley, in Fashion House and made appearances on "General Hospital," (Sydney Chase) and "Bold and The Beautiful" (Dorothy).

Take a look at the first teaser video of what's to come. Already, the drama and excitement is mounting.

Not to be picky....but it is not a reboot, it's a continuation. Reboot would be recasting a young bobby a younger JR...new Jock, etc etc.

Love the new show, but this is a continuation, not a rebbot, as Ryanna said.
