John Ross shows up to Elena’s and she shows him the email. He assures her he only came to Mexico for her because he was crazy about her, not because he set it up. It hits him that if she didn't have that email, she would still be with Christopher. He tells her to screw herself and storms out.

In his office, Mitch tells John Ross that he thought his betrayal of Bobby Ewing was worth $500,000, but now that it is in his lap he wants $2 million. If he doesn’t pay, not only will he tell Bobby John Ross set him up, but he will tell JR he was trying to screw him over.

John Ross approaches Christopher at a bar and tells him they are not family. Christopher accuses JR of using the Ewing name to get what he wants. They talk about Elena until John Ross gets a text about the sale documents.

JR arrives to the ball in a walker and tells John Ross to watch and learn. Inside, Sue Ellen gives a speech and someone shouts out that she should run for governor. Bobby is shocked to see JR there and gets him a chair. JR thanks him for all of the times he visited him. His last visit shook him out of his depression. He tells Ann he is happy to have her as a sister-in-law and then Bobby introduces Marta. JR lets him know that John Ross already told him about the conservancy sale and understands. JR is upset Marta’s father did not call and she tells him he has been sick. JR excuses himself and approaches Sue Ellen. He tells her she is the prettiest girl at the ball and would make one hell of a governor. Elsewhere, Elena tells John Ross she will honor their business arrangement, nothing more. She borrowed money from Sue Ellen to invest in oil.

Marta and John Ross go to a hotel room and she drugs his drink. They start going at it on the bed and she is recording the whole thing. The next morning he looks rough. She opens the safe and pulls out all the money. She put her neck out with the investor and if Mitch is causing trouble he needs to handle it. She hands him the phone. Later, he asks someone to dig up dirt on Mitch, but also wants to know who sent the email to Elena. Because he did not.

An oil crane is set up on the fields of Southfork Ranch. Elena picks up a reading and wakes up John Ross. They eagerly await the oil popping the top of the crane and when it does they all celebrate with the crew. It is flowing at 10,000 barrels. John Ross and Elena kiss. He has staked everything on this. Later, they all celebrate at a bar and John Ross gifts everyone a weekend getaway on him. He passes some money to one of them under the table for not telling Bobby he was drilling on South Fork. In an alley out back, John Ross meets up with a mystery person and tells them to hope for the best, prepare for the worst and to stay tuned.

At the ranch, Christopher tells his dad he turned down the investor’s offer and Bobby wonders why he won’t take money from him. At dinner, Elena encourages John Ross to tell Bobby about the oil when he offers Elena up to be a bridesmaid for Rebecca and Rebecca insists. Sue Ellen asks Bobby if he has seen JR, and Bobby encourages John Ross to go before it is too late. Bobby stands up to say something. He is selling Southfork. John Ross tells him to get in his truck and come with him. At the drill site, Bobby is livid. He is sick of the family devouring themselves over money. He promised Ellie there would be no drilling on Southfork. John Ross and Christopher fight before Bobby pulls them apart. There will be no drilling.

At home, Rebecca fixes Christopher up. He thinks John Ross is using Elena. Elsewhere John Ross tells Elena that Bobby forced his hand. Bobby and Christopher are in their office with lawyer Mitch when they are served with injunction papers from John Ross. The grounds: mental instability. Bobby is going to give John Ross the fight of his life. Later, Bobby has papers served to John Ross to stop drilling.

John Ross visits JR at his facility and tells him Bobby kicked him off the ranch. He hit a 2 billion barrel reserve but Bobby won’t let him drill. Selling it to a conservancy is BS, since he is going to turn around and give the money to Christopher for his alternative energy. And he is not even a Ewing. JR speaks. Bobby was always a fool. He grabs John Ross grabs him and forgives him for not visiting.

Outside Southfork, John Ross asks Elena to spy on Christopher. They are outsiders and will always be. She agrees and goes in. She sees the website about the China accident and he tells her everything. She wants him to be happy and is sorry about his work. She leaves and reports to John Ross they only talked about the injunction and wedding.
