    Daytime Emmy events.

Soaps.com is dedicated to bringing our readers the best coverage when it comes to soaps, and that includes the Daytime Emmys. This year’s Emmys will stream online, with comedian Kathy Griffin as the host. A pre-awards cocktail reception is planned, and the stars will be presenting the awards as they have done in years past. Soaps.com has been at the Daytime Emmys since the 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2007, and we will be there again this year. Each year we blog live from the event to bring you the latest news as it happens. In preparation for this year’s event, let’s take a look at what Soaps.com brought our readers in past years.

Before the big night, the stars have plenty of chances to mingle at a variety of parties as well as the annual cocktail reception that honors all the nominees. Soaps.com’s first foray into Emmy week was in 2007 with SOAPnet’s Night Before Party at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood, CA. There we photographed and chatted with the stars on the red carpet before heading in to enjoy the party. We caught up with Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie Spencer, "General Hospital") and chatted about whether she would be part of the then upcoming "General Hospital" spinoff "Night Shift." At the time she wasn’t sure whether she would be a part of the show, which was okay since she liked being surprised when receiving scripts. We also caught up with Thaao Penghlis and Leann Hunley, who had just returned to "Days of Our Lives" as Tony DiMera and Anna Brady DiMera.

    Ellen Wheeler (Soaps.com/Fix)
It’s not always at the glamorous events where one runs into the stars. While hard at work on stories by the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel, Soaps.com had a chance encounter with Guiding Light executive-producer Ellen Wheeler back in 2007. Then the show was celebrating 70 years on air and won an Emmy that year for outstanding writing in a drama series. It also tied with "The Young And The Restless" for outstanding drama. Back then no one could have predicted the changes daytime would see, including the cancelation of "Guiding Light" two years later. Wheeler looked to the future with a bit of trepidation then as she told Soaps.com "No-one knows what television is going to be like 5 years from now. Not just for daytime, but for television in general. Ratings are certainly down across the board. For daytime dramas to have survived for this many years is a tremendous achievement!"

As the big night approaches the stars are busy getting ready for the show. Meanwhile Soaps.com reporters prepare to cover the night’s events. Leading up to the show we keep our readers informed of all their favorite actors' pre-show pampering and primping. In years past, stars like Rebecca Herbst (Liz Webber, "General Hospital"), Emme Rylan (Lulu Spencer Falconeri, "General Hospital" and ex-Abby Newman, "The Young And The Restless") and Heather Tom (Katie Spencer, "The Bold And The Beautiful" and ex-Victoria Newman, "The Young And The Restless") all took to Twitter to share photos of their pre-award preparations. Actors like Erik Valdez (ex-Trey Mitchell, "General Hospital"), Scott Reeves (ex-Steve Weber, "General Hospital" and ex-Ryan McNeil, "The Young And The Restless") and other men took it easy as low-maintenance stars.

When the stars finally hit the red carpet on Emmy night, Soaps.com is front and center providing you with photos and interviews. The red carpet isn’t always about the stars, as their family also comes out to support them. Many a year sees the show falling on Father’s Day weekend, and 2008 saw several of the stars attend the Daytime Emmy awards with their daughters on their arms. Doug Davidson (Paul Williams, "The Young And The Restless") brought his daughter Calyssa with him that year. However it’s not just the kids who come out. In 2009 we caught up with Bradford Anderson (Damien Spinelli, "General Hospital") and his then fiancé Kiera Mickiewicz, who is now his wife and the mother of his two children. Anderson, a five-time nominee, called Keira his good luck charm. In 2012 Don Diamont (Bill Spencer, Jr., "The Bold And the Beautiful") arrived at the carpet with his new wife Cindy Ambuehl, with whom he too now shares two children.

    Smith (Soaps.com/Wilson)
The 38th Annual Daytime Emmys in 2011 had a more somber tone as the face of daytime was changing. "Guiding Light" had already been canceled and other shows like "One Life To Live" and "All My Children" were wrapping up their run on television that year. We spoke to Melissa Archer (Natalie Buchanan, "One Life To Live") about her feelings on the show ending, which she said was "bittersweet" but that the show had an "amazing ending" planned. We also caught up with Freddie Smith, whose first episode as Sonny Kiriakis on "Days of Our Lives" was airing that very week. He was a little tight lipped about his character. At that time the viewers didn’t even know that Sonny was gay, nor that Smith would go on to be involved in a daytime first, the first same-sex marriage on a soap.

Many viewers tune into the Daytime Emmy red carpet for the fashion, and Soaps.com covers that as well. We bring you the photos of the stars in their finest outfits, and sometimes their not-so-finest. You never know who will wear what! Some stars like Rebecca Herbst (Liz, "GH") are known to design their own looks for the event. While some stars go for the high-end designers, others like Ashley Jones (ex-Bridget Forrester, "The Bold And The Beautiful") opt for more affordable looks from H&M. Even if they don’t take home a golden statue, many stars are winners for their amazing outfits. The red carpet gives many of the actors a chance to glam it up in comparison to their on-screen counterparts, such as Teresa Castillo (Sabrina Santiago, "General Hospital") who wowed us on the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy red carpet last year.

The winners aren’t the only ones who go home with prizes, as actors leave the awards with a good amount of swag. In 2008 we went behind the scenes at the Kodak Theater to the Gift Bag Lounge where the Daytime Emmy celebrity swag is handed out. Vera Bradley was a big hit that year with their handbags. The swag isn’t just for the ladies, as JOICO was gifting the men products from their new moisturizing conditioner line. Sometimes the swag really lasts, as Nonnis Biscotti gave each star that year a bag filled with boxes of biscotti in delicious flavors, along with a VIP card for biscottis for life! You don’t have to be a star to get swag either, as Soaps.com walked away with some goodies of our own.

On Emmy night, Soaps.com is at the awards and live blogging the Daytime Emmys as they happen. Sometimes the show hits some technical bumps along the way, other times gimmicks don’t work out as planned. One never knows what will happen on Emmy night! Not only do we live blog the night’s events as they happen, we also go backstage at the Daytime Emmys to get the reaction of the winners. The stars are always humble and gracious, and in 2011 Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer, "General Hospital") celebrated his win for outstanding supporting actor with his kids, telling the press that it made for an amazing Father’s Day memory.

Be sure to tune into the online live stream of the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday June 22.
