Soaps.com's writers predict winners!
Soaps.com posted the Seventh Annual Sudzies winners which were full of surprises. Since the fans don't have their say during the Daytime Emmys, our readers chose their favorite actors and actresses they felt were worth winning a Sudzie, for their fine acting all year. Our writers spent time watching Daytime Emmy reels and came up with a few predictions. Will our picks be validated come Daytime Emmy night?
Hollie Deese: "'GH' all the way!"
"'General Hospital." The rain storm where Téa and Sam have their babies. Any clip with two women giving birth in a storm with mobsters running around and two certified mental patients playing God with the newborns wins in my book, hands down. Especially given the fact that it is a blended soap with 'GH' and 'OLTL' characters.
"The 'DOOL' Daytime Emmy reel was explosive, 'B&B's' clip from Stephanie's death scene was very powerful, making me torn between the two.
"As a 'One Life To Live' fan I would love to predict that the show will win in this category, but they didn't have many episodes to choose from since they were only on until January 13, 2012. Their Emmy reel for the 'Fraternity Row' cancellation on January 12 paid homage to the show's unfortunate cancellation but didn't stand out to me as Emmy worthy. With that being said, I predict that 'General Hospital' will take home the award for their Emmy reel surrounding the June 1 'Birth Of Sam And Tea's Babies' storyline. Baby-switching is nothing new to Daytime, but for Llanview and Port Charles fans alike this was a whopper. Todd Manning (Roger Howarth) delivering and ultimately switching Tea's (Florencia Lozano) baby with Sam's started a whirlwind of devastation to come. Not to mention, viewers were able to reconnect with Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco on screen from their 'Port Charles' days, as John helped deliver Sam's baby, who was later believed to have died."
"'General Hospital'. While the scenes between Florencia Lozano (Téa Delgado) and Roger Howarth (Todd Manning) gave me some measure of 'OLTL' closure, it was the heroic labor and delivery scenes between Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) and Michael Easton (John McBain) that were a true gift."
"Aimer tells me 'OLTL' should win, but she also said that 'GH' is likely to take it home this year and she's always right. Besides, half the 'GH' episode submitted was really 'OLTL' anyway."
"'Y&R’s' Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) and Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) both submitted fantastic Daytime Emmy reels but Davidson's got this.
"My pick is Doug Davidson and his struggle with killing his own son, whom Paul feared he turned into a killer by his years of neglect. The fact he had to turn himself in to his own daughter added another level of emotion and his experience showed through in his stunning portrayal of a man full of regret."
"'GH's'Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake). Some of Thompson's best work. Tissues required."
"Jason Thomson. He portrayed a piercing level of despair over Robin's death that had me in tears because it was so hard to watch his own."
"'Y&R's' Michael Muhney. He injected a simmering intensity into all of his scenes but marshaled them all carefully so that they could unfold like a well-planned stage performance."
"Michael Muhney and Peter Bergman are both solid actors but their reels highlighted stuff we've always seen from them. I was impressed with Doug Davidson's scenes, but of the four nominees, Jason Thompson's reel evoked the most emotion. Viewers didn't see Thompson's acting, they just felt Patrick's pain over losing Robin, which never went over the top."
"Muhney or Davidson from 'Y&R'. Both brilliant."
