Brooke makes her decision about Rick, Bridget shares her past with Steffy, and Rick has a question for Steffy.
Rick pleads with Brooke not to banish him from the company, but Eric tells him it’s Brooke’s decision to make. Brooke asks to speak to her son alone and everyone but Donna and Eric asks her to kick him out of the business.
Bridget talks to Steffy about what’s going on and learns Rick might get thrown out of the family company. Steffy asks Bridget if Rick really cares about her or if her dad is right that Rick is just using her to get back at him. Bridget confirms that Rick cares about her very much, but still calls the situation tragic. Bridget recounts her history of falling for the wrong guy, but tells Steffy she’s lucky because she can end things before they get any deeper. Bridget thinks Steffy will find another guy after Rick, but she will only have one dad. Bridget begs Steffy to end things in order to stop the pain she’s causing herself and Ridge.
After Brooke and Rick leave, Ridge, Thorne, Eric, Felicia, Donna and Stephanie talk about Rick leaving the company. Eric says it’s not a done deal and Stephanie wonders if Eric really wants Rick to stay on. Eric says he does want him to stay, but he wanted to be fair so he gave Brooke the decision to make. Stephanie thinks Ridge should have made the choice then, but Donna pipes in to defend her family. Donna calls what Rick did a mistake, but Ridge says his daughter is dead because of him and he couldn’t stay away from Steffy. Eric says now Rick will have to pay the price. Felicia says they should name a new president and that it’s Thorne's time. Thorne’s ready and Eric notes how valuable he is and if they need a new president they will talk about it then.
In his office, Rick tells his mother he was hoping he, Brooke and Eric could build a stable family at the company, which is something he’s always wanted. He thinks they had that before Ridge got in the way and he thought they could have that again working together. His position means a lot to him and he doesn’t want to lose it. Brooke wonders why he ruined everything by choosing the one thing that was forbidden to him. Brooke thinks Rick might be manipulating her, but Rick insists he loves running the company and he loves Steffy. Rick begs Brooke not to take this away from him because it means everything to him and it’s all he has left. Rick thinks they can resolve the situation with Steffy, but Brooke doesn’t know how because he hasn’t been sensitive to her husband’s feelings. She doesn’t think she’s ever gotten support from him, but Rick thinks the same about her. Brooke counters that she has always supported him but all she’s gotten in return are lies and manipulation. She says she is cutting him loose and Ridge enters telling him to pack his things.
Brooke leaves to tell the rest of the family her decision and Ridge tells Rick to get out of the building within the hour. Rick and Ridge argue and as Ridge is about to leave, Rick tells him he can kick him out of the company and even the city, but he can’t kick him out of Steffy’s heart. Ridge tells him he has one hour and leaves.
Brooke returns to Eric’s office and everyone wants to know what happened. Stephanie gently tells Brooke she knows how difficult this is, assuming she told Rick to leave. Brooke sadly shakes her head and Donna comes over to console her sister.
Ridge and Brooke meet up in Ridge’s office and he tells her she did the right thing. Brooke isn’t so sure, but Ridge says Rick had to go. Brooke tells him Rick was almost like a child again pleading for his job, but Ridge reminds her he is an adult and thinks Rick won’t come anywhere near Steffy now. Ridge thanks Brooke from the bottom of his heart.
Steffy comes to Rick’s office after getting a message from him. She isn’t sure she should be there, but Rick needed to see her. Rick fills her in on the meeting and that he has to leave the company. Steffy is sorry, but Rick doesn’t care, he just doesn’t want to lose her. Steffy doesn’t want to lose him either, but doesn’t think it will work. Rick believes it can and asks her to go away with him so they can start their own family. When she continues to protest, Rick asks a stunned Steffy to marry him.
