Having enjoyed the cruise so much last year (his first cruise ever) Winsor was more than happy to sign on for another tour with his fans.
Soaps.com: What about last year’s cruise made you want to do it again this year?
Winsor: I’m a big fan of Las Vegas and this is basically Las Vegas in the middle of the ocean. I had a ball. It was just cool. You ride out in the middle of the ocean and there’s all you can eat, all you can drink and whatever you want to do. It’s just amazing. And then you stop off in Cozumel and Key West. It’s just a really cool, fun thing to do.
Soaps.com: What is it like being accessible to fans 24/7?
Winsor: After the first couple of hours it kind of wears off and once they get to see you every minute it kind of settles down. It’s fun for all of us because we get to do these events and there are different things we get do on the boat. It’s a good thing to listen to what [the fans] have to say about the show and what’s going on and what their opinion is of it and things like that.
What’s really cool is you get to see all your other friends. I was on All My Children for years and I’ve known Cameron (Mathison, Ryan Lavery, AMC) for years and I know Ricky (Paull Goldin, Jake Martin, AMC) and the other guys from New York. It’s good to see them and hang out with them because we never get to see each other.
Soaps.com: And Lesli Kay (Felicia Forrester, B&B) is going on the cruise this year as well.
Soaps.com: Since you’re a big Vegas fan, where will people be likely to find you in the ship’s casino?
Winsor: I love blackjack. I mean, I’m not a big gambler by any means. I don’t play big money, but it’s just fun. I love the energy of it. It’s exciting.
Soaps.com: The cruise sounds like a once in a lifetime experience for the fans.
Winsor: I was discussing this with someone the other day and without the fans we wouldn’t exist. And it beats going to malls. Very seldom do I do that. I pretty much priced myself out of being booked on these things years ago because I got beat up so bad on All My Children. I got to the point where I didn’t have a life. I worked five days a week at ABC and I would take off on Friday night and do an appearance on Saturday and Sunday and come back Sunday night and go back to work on Monday. I got to the point where I got burnt out, but this is something where you really get to meet with the fans. It’s a five day deal instead of sitting at the mall and signing autographs and leaving, which is not very personal. This is, and it’s fun for everyone and it’s a break from doing what we do.
Soaps.com: The cruise definitely sounds like more fun for both the actors and the fans.
Winsor: Your guard’s let down. Just because we’re on television, we’re no different from anybody else. We walk on the same ground and I think it’s fun for the actors to get together and do something different. We’re going to be doing scenes on stage with people and we’re going to be doing a lot of adlibbing and having fun. It’s a really cool thing. I think it's great.
It’s clear Winsor is a definitely fan of this event and Soaps.com can’t wait to meet up with him on the cruise again! You can be sure we will bring you all the fabulous details, but if you plan on going as well, be sure to contact us and give us your take on the trip.
