Garden State Players has recently named Daytime soap star, actor, producer, poet and teaching artist, Brian Gaskill as its new education director and summer theater camp instructor. Gaskill, a New Jersey native is best known for his roles on "Guiding Light" as Dylan Lewis, "As the World Turns’" B.J. Green, "The Bold and the Beautiful’s" Oscar "Ozzy" Marone, "Port Charles’" Rafe Kovitch, and "All My Children’s" Robert 'Bobby' Thorne Warner. He is currently starring in the websoap, "The Bay: Dark Side of the Bay," airing online this summer.
Congratulations go out to Brian, who told Christine Fix, "I am very excited to take part in this venture at 'Garden State Players'. New Jersey is where my dreams began...and even back then I always thought one day I would be back helping foster the dreams of kids one day and helping them just get through that crazy part of their lives with the help of acting and theater and the arts. I have been doing this for years now (teaching), off and on, but to take the whole summer and really make it solid for that chunk of time with the youth from the same state and county I grew up in, brings it all home for me. And although I will continue to act (and pursue writing and directing opportunities), I look forward to making my relationship with the youth and community and the arts a consistent part of my life as well."
Those wishing to send their children to Garden State Players’ first Garden of Youth Summer Theater Camp can send applications in now for students entering grades 5-12. The camp will run 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM weekdays through the months of July and August on stage at Lillian Drive School, Hazlet.
Campers will learn about audition techniques, character development, monologue and scene preparation, and more. Weekly sessions will culminate in a performance for family and friends on Friday afternoons. Enrollment is limited and the cost is $300 per child per week. Sign up for any weekly session or for all of them as each week is independent of the others. Multiple-week and sibling incentives are offered upon request. For an application and/or more information, please contact Lauren at 732-497-2998 or Lauren@GardenStatePlayers.org or visit Garden State Players Facebook page or Garden State Players website. Garden State Players is a nonprofit theater group based in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
