Message from Soaps.com Admins
The admins had a summit and we came to a number of decisions regarding how user and post complaints will be handled on the message and update boards.
Not much has changed, but we hope that in clarifying how reports are reviewed that we can relax the atmosphere here a bit so you can enjoy posting and we can handle bigger board issues. We can't do this without your help.
What stays the same?
If it doesn't break the Soaps.com Guidelines, it is okay content to start with.
Bastardization of character names and character name calling.
Bastardization of character names and character name calling is not an offense unless used to bait and be disrespectful of the original poster's intent of a thread who is a fan of the character, or posted in a no bash forum to bait. It is also wrong if it is used as a way to bash an actor or actress. Bastardization of character names and character name calling in bash threads for the character, or general threads started by members who do not like the character, is not a reportable offense. Examples of bastardization of character names: HOgans, HOpe, Staffy, Stuffy, LameA$$ etc.
Offensive content.
Per the guidelines we do not allow sexually-oriented material, nude avatars, or any other offensive material on the site or in email to staff of the site. Considering what is offensive material is subjective but we try to narrow it down to that which is highly inappropriate. We do not need discussions that detail body parts (including slang terms), hygiene, STDs, comparisons to farm animals etc. Note that soaps are generally rated PG-14. It is best that members consider when posting that your content may be read by younger viewers. Masking curse words is okay when used conservatively in conversation. If a post is just spewing forth unintelligible garbage of character bashing and no noteworthy discussion is going on, it is at the admin's discretion to delete and handle as needed.
Starting Threads.
There are too many duplicate threads being opened. Admins would like users to look before posting. Please discuss that day's show in a daily thread another member may have started and remember to look for character and couple threads when discussing them. Threads opened should be for discussion, not to rant about a like or dislike of a particular character. Character/couple bashing or praising is an automatic duplicate. Remember not to post titles in ALL CAPS, add spoilers in the title, or curse words. Also, only admins can sanction bash and no bash threads so do not open new fan/non-fan threads with titles that exclude others.
Remember The Golden Rule.
Treat others in ways that you would like to be treated. Do not bash others, do not exclude others, do not surmise what they are thinking. We understand you might not like all you read and this is where your help is the most critical. We ask that members try to avoid threads on topics that bother them. There are too many reports of user bashing that is in fact just friendly debate. This is the internet, sometimes humor, sarcasm and friendliness is lost on us. Read the comments of others with a smile and you will hear others differently. The same is true if you post writing your comments with a smile and behave as you would if you were face-to-face.
Why not take matters into your own hands?
We understand the frustration of finding a post that we think is breaking the rules, but we ask that members do not play admin, offer posting advice, or attack other users for their posting mistakes. Posting in this manner only leads to further misunderstandings, especially if one is unsure of the interpretation of the rules. We have moderators to handle these issues and we ask that members report them. It is important for us to review if the user has been a problem before, if they are new and need direction, or if they are just a troll who should be banned.
Contacting The Admins
The admins are working hard to ensure you enjoy your visit at Soaps.com. Please contact forum.admin@soaps.com for any issues related to the message boards or comments on soap updates at Soaps.com. We do care about the environment you are posting in but know there are many offenses that we miss due to the volume of content posted here each day. When you send us any feedback regarding the forums, please always use this guideline. Send the name of the poster, the infraction, the link and the number, date and time of the post. Do not write added commentary or feedback. We do not read that. We only click the post and take any actions deemed necessary to fix the problem if one is found.
Please know that while the post may be handled, it is not guaranteed that you will hear back from an admin regarding the action taken, or see a message on the board that confirms how the member was handled (posts can be closed, members may be banned or issued a warning, but we don't have to indicate that anywhere).
Unfortunately, posting content according to what you see posted on the boards by other users is not the same as posting according to what the guidelines and forum reminders (stickies) direct. It is important that all members read the guidelines and this message.
