Jacqueline Courtney dies at age 64

"Actress Jacqueline Courtney, who died on December 20 at age 64, was one of daytime television's most popular stars from the late 1960s to the early '80s. She is best remembered for two soap opera roles - Alice Matthews Frame on Another World and Pat Ashley Kendall Lord on One Life to Live.

Courtney began playing Alice on Another World's first episode in 1964, but it wasn't until 1968 when actor George Reinholt joined the cast as wealthy businessman Steve Frame that she became part of one of daytime TV's most memorable love triangles. Alice and Steve fell in love, but a scheming Rachel (played by Robin Strasser) - who was married to Alice's brother - wanted Mr. Frame for herself. She soon seduced him, and on the night of Alice and Steve's engagement party, Rachel informed Alice that she was carrying her fiance's baby. The drama continued for this trio until both Courtney and Reinholt were fired from the show in 1975 due personality clashes with head writer Harding Lemay and executive producer Paul Rauch.
The couple quickly found new roles on One Life to Live as Pat Ashley and Tony Lord, who was secretly the father of
Pat's young son. Their onscreen romance lasted until 1977 when Reinholt left the show. Courtney later played Pat's insanely jealous twin sister, Maggie Ashley, who locked Pat in the basement in order to pose as her and date Pat's boyfriend, Clint Buchanan (Pat eventually killed Maggie and got her life back). After her OLTL contract wasn't renewed in 1983, Courtney returned to Another World to resume her old role as Alice from 1984 to 1985 and briefly in 1989. The actress also appeared on the daytime soap, Loving, in 1987 as Diane Winston, the madam of a fancy bordello."
