    I Wish It Wasn't This.

    Tuesday, September 07 2010
Reid's final wish is to be an organ donor and Chris is operated on.

Chris wakes up in his hospital bed. Katie is sitting beside him. She explains that they couldn't put the pump in him because he wasn't strong enough. "Do not give up hope," she begs.

In the hall, John tells Kim and Bob that they need a new heart for Chris within twenty-four hours or it will be too late. Kim hopes for a miracle.

At the station, Margo explains to Tom that they lost the donor heart. He's shocked. The police chief from Bay City calls and tells them there has been an accident.

Alison, Casey and Luke wander around the hospital. She wishes Luke would tell Bob and Kim what Reid is doing. He walks over to the couple and tells them that Reid has gone to Bay City to try and get the heart. "I wouldn't be surprised if he came back here tonight with that new heart," Luke says. They all go in and tell Chris and Katie. Bob sends his wife off to get something to eat and then talks to Casey and Luke about how important it is not to give up hope. He wants Reid to work as co-chair with Chris. When Luke and Casey drift away, Margo and Tom arrive. Reluctantly, they walk over. Bob realizes something is wrong and they inform him that Reid was hit by a train. Bob sees Luke returning and tries to send him to the cafeteria but Reid is rushed by on a stretcher before he can leave. Bob keeps Luke back and tells him that it's just a matter of time before Reid dies. Luke thinks he's giving up and yells at him to help Reid. He runs off. John walks by and Bob informs him of the accident. John and Bob have no idea why any of this is happening.

Kim and Alison get coffee in a room and talk about the wedding. Kim worries about Katie, but she's glad that she seems strong enough to deal with things.

Luke rushes down the hall to Reid's room. Reid opens his eyes. Luke begs him not to talk. The doctor asks for his wallet. Luke looks through it and finds the organ donor note on his license. "Chris," Reid gasps. Luke tells him he'll get better but Reid wants a lawyer, not a doctor. They call Tom in and Reid says he wants Luke to have his power of attorney. Luke begs him not give up. "We haven't had enough days. We're just getting started," he pleads with him. As he kisses him, Reid flatlines. John and Bob tell Luke that Reid is brain dead and there's nothing they can do. Luke asks them to leave him alone. Tom tells Bob about Reid's final request. John can't even consider that without a judge's approval. Luke is distraught and Bob tells him he knows this is all unfair. Luke is left alone with Reid. He blames himself for dragging him to Oakdale. He wishes he could save his life but the only thing he can do now is leave him and move on. "We finally agree on something Dr. Oliver. I wish it wasn't this," he says.

Luke goes to see Tom and Margo in the waiting room. They hand him the power of attorney papers and tell him they need to move quickly. Luke signs the paper so they can take Reid off of life support and give Chris the heart.

Down the hall, Chris mumbles in his bed to Katie. They talk about their future and how much they have to learn about each other. She looks forward to when they can live without fear. John comes in and announces that the heart is ready.

Bob and Kim sit in the hall and wonder how this could have happened. She feels like a fool for questioning Reid when he has died for their son. "I'll never have a chance to tell him I'm sorry," she cries. Alison and Casey wander over and she asks if she can still be part of the transplant team. Bob assures her she can be. They're family after all.

Katie rushes over to Luke in the hall and begins babbling about how wonderful Reid is and how this is all like a fairy tale. Crying, he tells her what happened and how she and Jacob were the family Reid never had. "He's not gone as long as part of him lives on in Chris," he says.

John and Alison are in Reid's room when Luke comes in to say goodbye. He tells him he will always be handsome and he's a good man. Katie and Bob stand in the doorway.

Katie rushes back to Chris to see him again. She tells him she loves him and Reid will save his life.

Everyone waits in the waiting room. Tom is pensive. He thinks that Reid has set a new standard of decency and they all need to follow his example.

Luke returns to Reid's empty room and looks around. Katie comes in and they cry together.

John starts the operation on Chris.

Next on As The World Turns:

Lucinda tells Lily and Holden they need to pool together for Luke.

Alison tells Noah that Luke needs him right now.

"Chris has to make it," Luke tells Ali.

this is a very sad day for me I honestly thought they had changed the ending but the party poopers did no such thing
I hate the way the writers are ending this fabulous soap that I have watched from day one and they have dissappointed so many faithful watchers like me. So sorry it had to end this way. I am not crazy about gays but this was handled very politely and I was not offended in any way.
My eyes will be red for a week with this show ending but I will continue to suffer through it. Love you all faithfull watchers and commentors.

I thought this was a strange episode, I know time is running out for Chris but dang I thought John, Bob and especially Tom acted almost giddy over Reids death I mean dang they didn't even really give Luke a minute for the news to sink in. Why didn't they call Lily/Holden in to support Luke, I mean Margo knew it, why didn't she call them on her way back to the hospital. I don't know I realize they were worried about Chris, but I just thought it was strange. Reid was very brave and organ donation is a great gift of life, if you chose. I really hate this ending to Luke/Reid. But I also hate how they ended the Meg character and just left her baby with Emily. Katie still get's on my nerves. Well I guess every one is getting a happy ending except for Luke/Reid and Meg. and what about Emma have we seen the last of her of will she make it to Jacks wedding. not much time left what about 7 episodes. Still alot to wrap up.

    I'm back and caught up...

right now I'm really sad and angry, it feels like a cheap and dirty trick, like they created one of their most complex and interesting characters and then sacrificed him so some long standing and dull ones can "have hope".

I think the cheapness of it meant I felt less sad and more manipulated. (though yes I did cry... poor luke)

that said, I thought the actors did a fine job, and the writers... (I guess)... in making it as subtle as possible.

I don't much feel the need to watch anymore. 13Gloria, I WAS crazy about the gays... I thought it was a beautiful love story, well written and acted, and I suppose I can leave it at that.

Someone online did a post that the finale episode should be like what they did on the tv show Dallas or even the Bob Newhart show. So this is what I’m going to envision as my fantasy ending. The majority of the hour should be vintage clips of how the show came to be. Then maybe the last 5 minutes Luke would wake up in bed turn to the other side and tell Reid he had the worst nightmare. So his waking up could have happened anywhere in the storyline. For example viewers who were rooting for the Holden & Molly pairing might have gotten married. When the end credits start to roll down the screen they would have all the cast members do a final bow. The viewers are going to have to do a lot of script writing in their own minds of how they want the show to end because the real writers won’t do it. Of course the homophobics will retain their IGNORANCE and still have Reid dead during the coming week. I find it sad in this day and age people just don’t get it, LOVE IS LOVE. So whatever the writers decide as the ending of the show I will always consider it a dream or nightmare as the case may be. May tolerance and love guide everyone.

As far as I am concerned, the show has ended for me as of today!! I don't want to watch the last episodes!! Luke, Reid and Noah cannot have a happy ending?!! THIS IS STUPID AND JUST PLAIN DUMB!! I AM GLAD THE SHOW WAS AXED!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW A GREAT CHARCTER AND ACTOR WHEN YOU SEE ONE, YOU DESERVE TO GO OFF THE AIR!!!

:*( I am so sad. I thought Reid and Luke were great together. :*( Just as sad to watch this soap end. Now Noah is going to be back in Lukes life, yuck. I didn't like them together at all.

I can't believe the producers of this show really think that we want our final memories of the show to be of the sadness and grieving that's taken over the last few weeks. Oh, I know - next week we'll get a wedding, probably a birth, and a few seconds to see people we haven't seen in weeks. Big whoop.

No, cards1, Emma will not be returning for the wedding. About the only Snyders there will be Holden and maybe Faith. So much for that once huge family. I haven't much cared for Emma the past few years as she became more and more self-righteous, but it seems like a huge slap in the face to Kathleen Widdoes that after all her years on the show, she was written off like that. I don't miss Meg a bit. I lost my liking for the character when instead of trying to help her husband, she kept running to a man who hated him instead. I wish people would quit saying that Emily got Meg's baby to raise. They left Eliza with her loving and completely sane father, who just happens to be married to Emily. The least they could do after killing off Paul's other children before birth.

not a luke/reid fan and def NOT IGNORANT...
you people raelly sauce me sometimes, just because ppl don't fall all over gay/lesbian couples dont make us ignorant. just as you have your beliefs that "love is love, I have my belief that it is wrong in the sight of the Lord.
do i sin, yes... do i curse, drink, lie, fornicate... yes yes and yes - but none of it is right and i have to account for that.
i say that to say that i am not perfect and because i see/agree with biblical teachings that it is wrong for a man to be with a man and woman with a woman DOES NOT MAKE ME IGNORANT. i dnot jump on the religious banwagon and call you naive and ignorant, rather you have your opinion and i have mine. and in my opinion I'M NOT IGNORANT..

now for the soaps, sorry to see reid die, and i think ppl could appreciate the reid character being sacrificed for a more consistent character like holden or lucinda. evn if the transplant were for tom or craig

padef that may be that they have turned Paul/Emily into caring sane people now and I have no problem with them together, but they have a long history before they turned into such up standing citizens. I just think Elisa should have ended up with her real mother, Meg,(sane, not crazy) with Paul seeing her when he wants to at least joint custody. Emily has her own children who unless Daniel changes his mind wants nothing to do with her. I would not want Emily raising my baby and my baby thinking Emily was her mommy. JMO but it is what it is. They could have let Mick's treatment work and they could have had they're own baby, but IMO she has no business claiming Meg's baby. I think Emma was just trying to help her daughter, I hate that she has been on this show for so many years and at the end Liberty and Gabriel will probably get more air time.
