Shannon: Hey Mick, how's it going?
Shannon: Thank you for taking the time today, I really appreciate it.
Mick: No problem!
Shannon: So tell me, how did your acting career get started?
Mick: I was in class at school and a casting director wanted to come through the school because a relative works at the school. They were casting for the Movie ?Birth? with Nicole Kidman and they were looking for kids with brown hair and blue eyes. They were pretty much done and were getting on the elevator when they saw me. I was sitting in a seat next to the window in the classroom and they saw me and said that they wanted me to audition. I auditioned and got a call back. That is how it all started."
Shannon: Wow, now that's a story - the right place at the right time!
Mick: Yeah, it is. Before that I was too scared to do anything!
Shannon: What does your typical day look like? Are you still in school right now?
Mick: Oh yeah.
Shannon: What grade are you in?
Mick: I'm in 8th Grade.
Shannon: So you still attend school regularly?
Shannon: How do you juggle that? What does your schedule look like on a day to day basis?
Mick: It varies because I?m not working every day. If I?m working the morning session, I have to wake up at 5:00 - 5:30 to get there. If I?m in both the morning and afternoon sessions then I won't get to school at all. If I?m in just the morning, I can get to school for a period or 2 and get all the homework. If I can't make it to school, they will send me all the homework and I can get it done.
Shannon: Do you ever find it difficult balancing the two? Like if you have to miss the classes and have all this homework to do?
Mick: You know, I think kids that are actors and kids that play sports (and stuff like that) seriously, actually learn how to balance that stuff. Not that they have an easier time with it, but they have a set in routine and I really don?t have any problems. I?m actually doing really well in school this year.
Shannon: Good to hear that! Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Mick: No I don't.
Shannon: So, you?re an only child.
Shannon: I understand that your mom is a big support system to you. Does she ever go to the set with you at all?
Mick: Yes she does. I have to have a parent take me and my dad is training for a triathlon, so he?s been training for that in the morning and my mom always takes me. She?s great about helping me learn my lines, she's really great!?
Shannon: What is your favorite thing about working at As the World Turns?
Mick: It's just so much fun! Michael Park, Roger Howarth and Ashley Greiner . .everyone has been so nice to me and it's all so great. Some of the highlights are hanging out in Michael Parks room playing Halo 2, stuff like that, when we're not doing anything. There?s always something to do, it's great.?
Shannon: Who have you found to be the funniest of your cast members?
Mick: l always remember Michael Park and Maura West when they were taking My Humps (a song by the Black Eye Peas) and changing it into a song about her baby and the fetus. . .it was one of the funniest moments.
Shannon: You mentioned Ashley Greiner earlier. Are you two friends outside of ATWT? Do you get to hang out some?
Mick: Yeah, we hang out a lot. I?ve got the Wii, so we play that sometimes.
Shannon: How do you like to spend your free time, when there is no school and no work?
Mick: Well obviously I like video games. Aside from that I am really a sports guy. I play tournament level tennis. I just won a level 2 tournament this weekend.
Shannon: Wow, so you stay really busy huh?
Mick: Yeah, I have to really train for that. I work out with a trainer and stuff.
Shannon: How many days a week do you have to work out for that?
Mick: I work a session a week with the trainer and I play 3 to 4 times a week outside of that.
Shannon: Between that, ATWT and school, it doesn't sound like you don?t have much time to spare.
Mick: I'm on my school?s basketball team as well.
Mick: I play. I am still learning though. I wouldn't say that I am amazing at it. Laughter.
Shannon: Laughter. What bands have influenced you the most?
Mick: We play a lot of Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Beatlesa lot of that kind of rock. We don?t play that much modern stuff. If we do it is usually Oasis and The White Stripes.
Shannon: Now, when you say We, who are you referring to?
Mick: My guitar class. I take guitar at school.
Shannon: You're learning everything up there! Laughter.
Mick: Laughter.. Yeah, it's good!
Shannon: Well, summertime is right around the corner. Do you have any vacation plans for this year yet?
Mick: I'm not sure exactly what we will do yet, but my summer is pretty much going to be centered around tennis and ATWT. I am going to try to go to a tennis academy and play a lot this summer.
Shannon: Do you have spring break coming up?
Mick: I actually have no idea when it is. Laughter. I think it is towards the beginning of April sometime. I don't think I will be going away for that. I will be working at ATWT then.
Shannon: What would you like to say to all of the ATWT fans reading this?
Mick: Just to keep watching!
Shannon: Just for fun, what television shows do you like to watch?
Mick: I am really into House. I really love that show! I also watch 24. Those are my two favorites.
Shannon: What is the latest CD that you have purchased?
Mick: I have an ipod, so I don?t really do CD?s. The last song that I downloaded was All in this Together by The Old Crow Medicine Show. It is a folk song. I know it sounds funny, but when I was at camp we used to play that song. I really liked it and couldn't find it until a couple of days ago.
Shannon: Mick, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me today. It was a pleasure getting to know you a bit. Best of luck to you with your tennis this summer!
Mick: Thank you!
