Thanks Barb G & Earthmom ... I had to get that off my chest again.

As tragic as the story is, I would have tearfully accepted it as an amazingingly dramatic way to end the show, and love the wonderful work from Eric and Van. However, that would mean that I would have to care about the person receiving the heart as well as the person who lost his life in order to give it. In my opinion Chris didn't care if he lived. All of his actions pointed to a disregard for his life. And for what reason? Because he was going through a rough time? He didn't have anything to live for? No, he had a potential job, a new love, and caring family. He didn't seem to care about any of that when he decided to do nothing about his health, even when he knew how dire his situation was. And this is someone who deserves to be put above everyone else who did what they could to preserve their life? To me that's senseless.

I am so sick and angry over this, how dare them do this to Luke, He and Reid were a great couple and Reid had just told Luke that he loved him and they go and ruin it and kill the best add the show did. Reid was a breath of fresh air, shame on you writers for taking the easy way out.

It's a soap. These crazy things happen all the time. Soap characters should be used to it by now. But act more surprised every time.

I have watched ATWT for over 30 years. At times, it was great, and at other times I watched out of habit. I was instantly interested and entertained when the character Reid was added. It was an amazing Love story, and I rarely even thought about the characters being gay. It was two people falling in love, accepting each other as they are and wanting to be better for each other. Ending the story this horrible way was an awful, disappointing choice. Many people have real life death and tragedy to deal with and sometimes a few minutes a week being entertained by the characters we have come to know and love brings joy. Yes, tragic things happen on soaps, but as you continue watching, you get to see the characters deal and find happiness again. We don't get that with this ending. Truthfully, Chris and the entire Hughes family should feel sad and quilty. Katy should be devastated to only have Chris 5 to 10 years more and have lost a great friend. Luke deserved better! Other characters such as Craig, have done awful things and yet they.....I can't enjoy anyone's supposed happiness at this point. Yes, of course it is not REAL!

I am devastated. I loved this storyline even as I knew it was winding down. Now, they throw at us the oldest cliche in the book. Years ago when gay characters were portrayed it was so common, it was defined in the book the Celluloid Closet. "The f____t dies in the end". That's what they did here. Obviously, the writers don't know how to write for gay people, or they would know how offensive this is. A sexless gay character dies so that a stupid "normal" character can have his sweet future with his girl. They never would have written the story the other way around. NEVER!

I think what made the Reid death so aggravating is that Chris has always been a self-centered character to begin with. I got used to Dylan Bruce portraying Chris and actually started to kind of like him. Then they bring in yet another actor for the 1200th time which made it hard to care about him that much. All I can say is I can't wait for another soap to hire Eric Sheffer Stevens. I will probably watch it for that reason. I also hope Roger Howarth returns to OLTL as Todd Manning.

Reid gave this show a whole new breath of life. What a charactor......I started out hating him, then he became my fav to watch. So complex! He was the most interesting one of all, and to kill him out was torture to the viewers.
This has recently became my favorite soap, and I am sick they are taking it off. I hope before it ends we see Carly and Jack happy and permenantly together, Dusty and Janet move into that house and live happily ever after....and I was so hoping to see Luke and Reid together. : (

I agree with Thomson in part on how the show should have ended for Luke and Reid. The night that I read the spoiler about Reid's fate I could not sleep because I was soooo upset. Over and over this show's writers have shown their homophobic nature. First by making Luke and Noah wait a year before we heard they finally had sex (Lord forbid they be shown in a somewhat intimate loving embrace or laying on a bed together!) and then killing Reid off before he and Luke ever slept together, even though they had a loving, honest and mutually supportive relationship. Meanwhile, it appears that these couples that have already been married numerous times and could not keep it together (Lily and Holden; Carly and Jack) will be reunited once again. What a crock.. there is no way I can believe they will live happily ever after, I just know we won't see the next break-up. Reid and Luke had what it took to make it to forever, like Tom and Margo or Chris and Nancy. The only way I could get over my intense anger at the treatment that Luke and Reid received, was to write an alternate ending. Here it goes...

Reid went to Bay City and got the heart for Chris (another heart also became available so the patient in Bay City also survived). Chris survived and became healthy again. Everyone got to see the other (caring) side of Reid and accept and like him for the total man that he is. Of course Reid got the job of Chief of Staff at Memorial. Noah and Luke had a long talk where Noah finally takes responsibility for his actions and the loss of Luke. Noah apologized to both Luke and Reid for his behavior and all three men become good friends. Noah went to LA and met his true soul-mate there and from the lessons he learned from his relationship with Luke, Noah was able to be a good life partner to this new guy. Luke and Reid got married and Noah gave Luke away at the ceremony. Katie and Chris got married and had two children together. Katie then acted as a surogate for Luke and Reid and gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. The boy was a good kid and kind of a nerd. The girl was a real firecracker getting into everything and keeping Luke and Reid on their toes. Luke and Reid worked together rearing their children and though they did not always agree on everything they always acted as a mature united couple.......

This is the ending that I will choose to think about when I think of these characters as oppose to the insult the "true writers" gave us.
