* Bad Mom! - a scheming drunk who drove her kids away at a young age.
Iris is an abrasive, scheming drunk - at least that's what her children, Gwen and Cole, have to say about her. They both emancipated themselves as young teens just to get away from her.
Iris's lies go way back - starting when Gwen was an infant and Iris wanted Gwen's father, Ray Tenney, to stay away. She claimed that Ray's other daughter, Carly, had killed her baby!
Iris came to Oakdale just as Gwen was suing Carly for custody of her son. Iris's presence in Oakdale seemed to be Gwen's lucky break, as the judge would only grant custody if Gwen were living with Iris. Iris, however, took a disliking to Gwen's boyfriend, Will, and schemed to have him arrested for poisoning her. Bad move on Iris's part - she went to jail instead!
Back out of jail, Iris wasted no time in coming back to Oakdale, this time to supposedly help her son Cole get into the music business. But Gwen didn't believe in Iris's "help" and wanted nothing to do with her mother. Most recently, Iris gave Cole money to pressure his young girlfriend Sophie to get an abortion. When that didn't work, she and Cole conspired to sell the baby - to Will and Gwen via Barbara. That plot fell through and Gwen cut Iris out of her life; Iris left town.

Iris freaks out when she shows up at the bank and finds it closed.
Iris goes back to Barbara's room and grabs what cash she can before heading out. She goes down to the bar to have a drink for the road. When she turns around, Gwen is standing there. She lambastes her mother for almost burning people to death. Iris says she owes her because she gave birth to her, even if she is a 'gross, lying, psycho'. She asks her daughter to let her walk out of her life. Gwen keeps her there, talking for long enough for the cops to arrive. As she is cuffed, Iris tells her daughter that she will regret this. "You consider yourself an orphan," she bleats as she's dragged out.
Gwen and Will return to Fairwinds to tell Paul and Emily that Iris is in custody. Emily's sorry. There are many apologies and Paul decides it's time for a toast to them as a family.
Gwen and Will corner Iris in Old Town and order her to go to an AA meeting immediately or they'll check her into rehab. They bicker about her wearing Barbara's clothes and Iris claims that she is just jealous of her. Will gets a call from Paul and leaves to meet him while Gwen drags her mother away.
At the AA meeting, Gwen prods her mother to talk to the circle. Iris begins telling her story and starts to cry. When the meeting ends, Will, Henry and Paul run in looking for them.
Iris and Gwen return to Fairwinds. Iris apologizes to her daughter for unburdening herself on her and then goes off to 'pray'. Will calls and asks Gwen to keep her mother there. He arrives with Paul and Henry. They explain they think her mom has something to do with the disappearances. Paul suddenly smells smoke.
