Daytime television and Soaps.com is saddened to announce the death of BENJAMIN HENDRICKSON, who played Chief of Detectives Hal Munson on the daytime drama, As the World Turns. Hendrickson who was 55, passed away over the weekend at his home in Huntington, New York. It has been reported that he had committed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Hendrickson is a Daytime Emmy Award winning actor, his most recent win being an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2003. He has been with As the World Turns since 1985. In addition to his work on the show, Hendrickson has appeared in over 20 Off - Broadway plays, numerous films, theatre and television.
The daytime community is said to be devastated from the loss of their dear friend and gifted actor. Hendrickson received numerous awards for his portrayal of the character Hal Munson, including his 2003 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Born on August 26, 1950 in Huntington, New York, Hendrickson was an avid golfer and spent much of his down time on the green with his As the World Turns co-stars. His last air date as Hal Munson will be July 12, 2006.
Hendrickson is survived by a nephew, Stephen Hendrickson, and niece, Kristen Batteria.
