    Lauren Holly (ex-Julie Chandler) has joined the season two cast of the Syfy channel series "Alphas." Sean Astin ("Lord of the Rings") and C. Thomas Howell ("Southland") will also appear.

    "Alphas" is about a clandestine group of people with superhuman mental and physical abilities, who take on cases the government is unable to solve. Holly will guest star as Charlotte Burton, a senator with mysterious ties to someone on the Alphas team. Season two premieres on July 23 at 10:00 PM EST.
