Soaps.com met up with Jacob Young (JR) at the All My Children Fan Club Main Cast Event on July 30. Before the luncheon got started, we had the chance to talk about "All My Children" heading online, as well as JR's growth as a character and the many people returning to his life.
Soaps.com: What can you tell us about the "All My Children" documentary you are working on?
Jacob: We've all been working on this documentary, but it's kind of on hold at the moment now with all the new news. It was basically a show coming to an end. That's what it was about and now it's kind of not necessarily ending. We've been working really hard on it and getting a lot of interviews, but right now we're just kind of in a holding pattern.
Soaps.com: Could it become a transition documentary?
Jacob: Maybe it will turn into that, yeah.
Soaps.com: Are you entertaining the idea of going online with the show if it all works out?
Jacob: Yeah. I mean if it can meet all the union benefits and the things we need. A lot of the actors have been paying their pensions for a lot of years and just to throw something like that away to keep a show going, I don’t know [if it] is worth it. But if they can come to all those terms, I'm there.
Soaps.com: Are you looking for other things right now or waiting to see what happens?
Jacob: I'm just kind of waiting it out. See what's going on. I'm not in any rush.
Soaps.com: How long have you been playing JR now?
Jacob: Almost eight years.
Soaps.com: How are you feeling about it possibly coming to an end?
Jacob: It's been an emotional roller coaster for everybody. It was sad when we got the news and then one moment it's very happy and you come in the next day and everybody is in that lull again, having that ominous cloud above us. I like to consider it the death march because it's like that's what we're doing right to the very end. Showing up every day knowing the end is in sight. It's difficult, but we're still putting our game face on. We're going in there and doing our best quality work we possibly can.
Jacob: He's definitely hit the bottom again. That's for sure. I think he'll have a little more growth, but JR is the guy that, you know, he rises up and then he falls on his face. He wants something and he can't get it. He's his own worst enemy.
Soaps.com: Do you have any idea how his story will wrap up at least for the ABC portion of "All My Children?"
Jacob: I hope it's a happy ending. [chuckles]
Soaps.com: Do you think Dixie [Cady McClain] will be the one who helps turn him around when he finds out his mother is actually alive?
Jacob: I think she's going to be a piece of that, but I don’t think it's fully going to be Dixie. Initially, he's like, 'Who are you to come back from the dead and team up with Tad [Michael E. Knight]? You think you can just change my life? You don’t know the first thing about me. You don’t know who I am anymore.' So, he wants to shut that down. She chisels at him and keeps working away. This next month there will be a lot of Dixie, but I think there will be a few other elements that will be in the mix.
Soaps.com: Do you have scenes with Melissa Claire Egan now that Annie's back?
Jacob: No, she [returned] briefly. No, he didn't have scenes with her because she's still over there in Oak Haven.
Soaps.com: Adam [David Canary] is coming back as well. How is that going to impact JR?
Jacob: I don't know. I don't know. I don't think Daddy's going to be too happy.
Soaps.com: Are you looking forward to working with him again?
Jacob: I am. I can't wait to work with David again.
Soaps.com: That dynamic is missing on the show. It's been really entertaining lately, but Adam is missed.
Jacob: Yeah. No one can replace Adam that's for sure. I'll be happy when David comes back for the brief time that he will be there.
Soaps.com: Do you see JR ending up with someone or will he end up alone?
Jacob: I don't know. Maybe someone else comes back from the dead.
Soaps.com: Oh, that's right! Babe [Alexa Havins] is returning.
Jacob: His one and only love, right?
Soaps.com: When do you have scenes with her? Do you know?
Jacob: I don't know. Soon I would expect. We only have a month left.
