In the police station, Erica tells Adam that Annie is in the hospital and lost the baby, as well as a lot of blood - she may not survive. Adam gets faint. Jesse and Erica sit Adam down and she fawns over him, which he takes exception to. She walks into the other room where Ryan asks her how Adam is doing. She says he was shaken up by the news about Annie, but she's just overjoyed that Kendall can finally come home. Joe Martin arrives to check out Adam. Joe learns that Adam shot Stuart. Adam says he should forget about taking him to the hospital - he's right where he belongs. Joe leaves, telling Jesse to contact him should Adam have another episode. Scott arrives and asks Jesse to show Adam the taped message from Annie - it looks like she's not going to make it! Jesse takes the tape to Adam, who tells Jesse to get rid of that traitor, Scott. Jesse closes the blinds and implores Adam to watch the footage. He does. Scott comes in and offers proof on paper that Adam was the father of Annie's baby. Scott admits that he was attracted to Annie, but nothing happened. He then tells Adam that Annie could be dying. Adam wants to see her.
A Shot in the Arm.
Erica is at home sorting out clothes and shoes. Ryan arrives asking what she needs. She says she doesn't know how she's going to fit all of this into a backpack! Suddenly Joe arrives and wants to begin vaccinations - Erica faints! When she comes around, Joe and Erica explain to Ryan that she is headed to Africa - hence the needles. Joe then tells Ryan he'll have to step out - not all the shots are going in her arm! When Joe finishes, Ryan comes back in and tries to help high-maintenance Erica choose her wardrobe! She gets a text that her Visa is ready in New York. Ryan offers to go with her!
Necessary Precautions.
Tad arrives at the hospital and asks a few questions about David - trying to find out if he's been at the hospital the whole afternoon. The nurse says David has been there all day. Joe corrals Tad to ask about a fundraiser. David appears and wonders why Tad was looking for him. Joe pipes up and says he was looking for him - he brings up the African fundraiser. David smirks that they'd like to see him halfway around the world, wouldn't they?! When David walks away, Tad thanks Joe for the cover. Joe asks Tad to go to Africa, but he declines. Tad asks again about David's schedule. Joe is puzzled, and Tad says he'll explain at a later date.
Krystal comes upon Tad and Joe. They immediately begin convincing her to go to Africa to help feed the children. She agrees, and goes off with Joe to look at brochures.
Go Team!
Amanda and Jake arrive at the hospital - she is going to see a therapist. Amanda balks, and Jake promises her that someday he'll be able to give her exactly what she wants, but for now, she needs this. Amanda goes with the doctor. Joe appears and asks Jake who he's going to talk to?! Jake admits to his father that this whole baby thing has made him feel like something is going to go wrong at any moment. Joe says one day they'll have a child of their own and they'll all bond as a family.
Village Idiot.
Adam stands in Annie's hospital room pleading with Joe Martin to find a way to keep her there! Joe is puzzled. Ryan strides in and says he knows why Adam is asking this! Ryan confronts Adam about what he's trying to do - Annie needs psychiatric care. Adam says he is going to provide understanding. Ryan says he sounds just like Aidan did a few weeks ago. Adam says Aidan is useless. Ryan wonders if he'll try to buy her freedom. Adam says he won't let her down.
I Won't Operate!
In Ian's room Joe tells Zach, Kendall and Erica that Ian could die within the week if his faulty heart valve isn't replaced! Joe goes over the different types of valves, suggesting that a mechanical valve is likely the best option, although it isn't a perfect solution. Erica calls Adam, asking for more information on Scott's valve. Kendall isn't sure what to do. She goes to the waiting room. Ryan is waiting and takes her in his arms. She leaves to clean up before going back to Ian. Ryan asks Zach if he can do anything; Zach tells him to kiss Spike for him. Ryan leaves. Jake catches up with Kendall and tells her about the prototype valve. David tells Kendall that the valve might work but that it might not; she begs him to do the surgery and save Ian's life.
A Secret Kept!
Zach meets Joe at the hospital and tells him about Ian's symptoms. Gayle, David's spy, listens and calls David as well as Ian's pediatrician. Kendall and Ryan arrive. Zach tells them about Ian and tells Ryan to call Erica! Kendall stops him for a second but Ryan leaves. Kendall pushes for more answers but Zach doesn't know anything. Finally, he says they called in David again.
Outside the room Joe meets with David and says they need to get Ian into surgery right away! David slowly walks into the waiting area and tells the clan that Ian's heart is failing and he needs surgery right away because without a valve replacement Ian will die. Kendall turns into Zach's arms as Ryan watches closely. Erica asks Ryan where his feelings are. He insists he is ready to step into Kendall's life to shoulder her burdens; she warns that Kendall will go back to Zach. Kendall walks into Ian's room and cries over his crib, upset that she wasn't there when he needed her. She vows not to leave him again. Zach listens. She beats herself up over being with Ryan; Zach insists this isn't her fault. He asks if she is happy and she shrugs before saying she is. He leaves her alone.
David Wants Answers!
Joe spots Kendall at the hospital. He thinks she is there to see Erica and Adam but Kendall says she is there for her own appointment.
